These are great, I love them. Read them and discuss. Post your favorite ones, or if you take the other side, the ones that offend you, or that you can come up with an explanation for.

"What happens when we're dead? The irony is that all our questions wil be answered after we die. We spend our whole life trying to figure out the truth and the only way we'll find out what it is, is to get hit by a bus. And the only comfort that religion offers is that God is driving that bus." - John Ryman, When Galaxies Collide

"We would be 1,500 years ahead if it hadn't been for the church dragging science back by its coattails and burning our best minds at the stake." - Catherine Fahringer

"If we are going to teach 'creation science' as an alternative to evolution, then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative to biological reproduction." - Judith Hayes

"If god doesn't like the way I live, let him tell me, not you."

"Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned." - Author Unknown

"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect, had intended for us to forgo their use." - Galileo Galilei

"One might be asked "How can you prove that a god does not exist?" One can only reply that it is scarcely necessary to disprove what has never been proved." - David A. Spitz

"Atheism is a requirement for a complete human being. Religion is a crutch that is shackled to you, one you never really needed in the first place, but were convinced by others that you couldn't live without. Once you discover it's only an illusion, that it's not even a real crutch, you discard it gladly." - Brent Yaciw

    --John A. Hutchinson

"It isn't the parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand."
    --Mark Twain

"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one."
    --George Bernard Shaw

"The invisible and the non-existent look very much alike."
    --Huang Po

"Faith is a cop-out. It is intellectual bankruptcy. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can't be taken on its own merits."
    --Dan Barker, former evangelist

"Atheism is not a philosophy; it is not even a view of the world; it is simply an admission of the obvious. In fact, 'atheist' is a term that should not ever exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a 'non astrologer' or a 'non-alchemist'. We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs. An atheist is simply a person who believes that the 260 million Americans (87 percent of the population) claiming to 'never doubt the existence of God' should be obliged to present evidence for his existence-and, indeed, for his BENEVOLENCE, given the relentless destruction of innocent human beings we witness in the world each day."
--Sam Harris, "Letter to a Christian Nation"

"Losing your faith is a lot like losing your virginity; you don’t realize how irritating it was ‘til it’s gone."
    -unknown

"My last vestige of 'hands off religion' respect disappeared in the smoke and choking dust of September 11th 2001, followed by the 'National Day of Prayer,' when prelates and pastors did their tremulous Martin Luther King impersonations and urged people of mutually incompatible faiths to hold hands, united in homage to the very force that caused the problem in the first place."
    --Richard Dawkins

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
    --Steven Weinberg

"I still say a church steeple with a lightening rod on top shows a lack of confidence."
    --Doug McLeod

"The Bible, it seems certain, was the work of sand-strewn men and women who thought the earth was flat and for whom a wheelbarrow would have been a breathtaking example of emerging technology."
    --Sam Harris

    Anti-Christian/Atheist Quotes

    why?

is it us, or is it you? (minus the jerk part...i don't think either should be stereotyped as jerks)

---------- at least read from here: ------------

    Thom's Law
"Nothing can not produce something. If there was ever a time when there was nothing, there would STILL be nothing."

It doesn't matter how much research we do, anyone who has common sense knows that no matter how much "nothing" you have at any given length of time will still be nothing.
You cant create particles, let alone the laws of science from "nothing". Something that is superior to science, that has always existed, is the only explanation for how
the universe began (unless the universe itself never had a beginning). My opinion is that, that something could only be God.

Proof (is proof supposed to be possible)?

The Bible itself is something amazing. No, not any ordinary person could create the Bible...i would argue that not even a human could of been the author of the Bible. The Bible was written over a period of 1600 years, and had 40 writers (all wrote through the breath of God). The most amazing part about this is that even though the Bible had such a long time period, and so many authors...many books intertwine with each other, and have predictions that will be made by one...and carried out by another. There are many prophecies (predictions) in the Bible, that have, are, and WILL come true. Here is a list: http://www.100prophecies.org/

For God, what would be more meaningful... he makes people love him (no free will), they believe he is real after he shows them he has the power to do anything in the world and gives
them anything they ask for, OR they CHOOSE to follow him based on faith NOT because he can do some "magic tricks". Because of this i believe that God will never prove to
humanity, until he comes to Earth, that he is real...he will give us things to lead us to believe in him through faith, a book on how to do it, but nothing more. Although i
also believe that after we TRULY accept God and desperately need something from him (need, not want), he will give it to us. Heres a real life example:

    ---------- to here ------------

During the summer my mom likes to sleep on the deck underneath a overhang on the side
(sort of a rectangle area on the side of a deck large enough to fit 3/4 of a queen size mattress).

My mom was in a stressful mood one day, before she went to bed she prayed to God and said that she was feeling very stressed with life and wanted to know that he was there
for her. (she has been a very faithful Christian and hard-working mom her whole life).

Later that night she was woken up by a small storm, she looked over and there was a blanket held between the her and the deck where there was no overhang.
This blanket was blocking the rain from hitting her. Through the blanket was a bright glare of light shinning through.
The figure behind it appeared to be my dad standing on a chair holding the blanket with a lattern in his other hand.

She feel back asleep and the next morning thanked my dad for putting up the blanket.
He said he never did such a thing. It then hit her that this was Gods sign to her that he was there for her. He sent an angel to protect her from the storm.
(The main purpose of the blanket was not to serve as a barrier to the rain but rather a message/symbol from God to say "its ok, im here for you")

Up to this point she had ALWAYS thought that angels were the size of cupid (shorter then a human).
Later that month she read in the Bible that angles are between 12-15 feet tall. the distance between the deck and the roof is ruffly 15 feet high!
Why is this important? If it was a "hallucination" or dream of some sort, her mind would of created the image based on what it knows. She had no doubt in her mind, at the time, that angels were cupid size (3-4 feet tall?)...yet when she saw it...it was 3+ times as tall. This would also be the one and only "hallucination" in her life. Is this all just a series of coincidences? possibly, but maybe not. I believe it, thats as far as it will go for any factual statement though.

Take into consideration: my mom had neck pains, was under stress, and was taking mild pain medication at the time. Therefore it is possible that this was a "hallucination" or dream, she says she knows 100% it was real but then again hallucinations/ dreams can be very very realistic. Its also possible that at a time in her life she passed by a picture with a tall angel on it, although she cant remember this ever happening...maybe it came back to hear during the hallucination/ dream? I'm stating the possibilities because it would be unfair to only support one side of the argument. Although i do see this side of the argument, opposition, as unlikely...it is "possible" given a series of coincidences. Despite this being 100% fictional or not, i still consider it an interesting story.
Take note that this is the only appearance of any supernatural thing she has seen in her entire life, id imagine it to be more then once if it were a medical problem?

Is my moms experience, the Bible and its prophecies enough to "prove" Gods existence?
Of course not, God wants people to find him through faith...and therefore he will never give something that can be used as hard proof/ evidence that he exists.
If we found a way around faith, hard proof/ evidence, humanity would be pointless (God wants us to CHOOSE to follow him).

wish i could say the same for you
not yet, but maybe one day....

    Anti-Christian/Atheist Quotes

Am I really the one looking like an idiot? If you don't have enough faith in your religion to defend it, then what faith do you really have? I think I'm doing you a favor of challenging you on your beliefs. It gets you thinking, which a religion normally doesn't.

I side more with the reality that atheist have removed a blind from our eyes. A blind thousands of years old that fits too well for most to discard.

I know how you feel, I was once a Christian, at least according to some doctrines. I know how you feel that atheism is "silly" because I once did as well. I don't think it comes from independent thought though. I think it comes from the environment we grow up in. This is also the reason 85% of the world is religious. I grew up Christian, babtist specifically. I've been going to church all my life because I live in Arkansas, part of the "'Bible Belt" of America. This town is so saturated with religion its sickening. But if I was born in India, I would almost positivly be Hindu.

As for it being a crutch, I can understand why you don't relate to the assertion. I always thought there was something more when I was a Christian, and never thought it was a crutch. But now that I look at it from the outside, I see how it's true. People need religion because it gives them a feeling of meaning, of guidance, and ultimatly immortality. Most human minds just can't grasp the fact that once we are gone, we very well may be gone for good. Humans are so egotistical that we think because we are the most developed species on the planet, that we have some higher purpose. It is our nature of this insecurity that is the limp needing a crutch. Have you ever noticed how every religion is perfectly designed to fullfil the needs of the people that it follows, mostly depending on the area they live in, and how religions change over time to fit the needs of it's changing people? A people with a different disability need a different crutch.

Of course they did, I have just as much right to express my rejectance of Christianity as others have to express thier acceptance of it. Also according to some doctrines I very well could be the anti-christ. They say he won't be a tyrant murderer, he will be a rational person who picks Christianity apart peice by peice and disproves it. Hmmm does this sound like a last-ditch effort of ancient God-creators to accuse an atheist as a heratic? I think so

I believe that one day we will find the scientific explanation of creation, we just don't have the technology needed now. What we find may indeed disprove Thom's law, who knows.

If the Bible is the breathe of God, then why are there contradictions, wrong methods of astrology, and concepts that come from other religious texts that were written long before it?

Why does a perfect being need humans to love him in the first place? A perfect being is complete, and needs nothing to satisfy him. Also, this could also be a concept made to curb the want of proof of the religion, because there isn't any. All the concepts of the Bible could have been added in by priests to keep the common people in line with the government they were under at the time.

Forgive me if my disbelief offends you, but this could have been a dream, and the wind could have been blowing the opposite direction. Correct me if I mis-interpreted the details of how the building was laid out, and how she was laying.

Hold on. You said that she "saw" a blanket, not an angel. She remembered back and thought that it could be an angel, she didn't think it was at the time.
cTake into consideration: my mom had neck pains, was under stress, and was taking mild pain medication at the time. Therefore it is possible that this was a "hallucination" or dream, she says she knows 100% it was real but then again hallucinations/ dreams can be very very realistic. Take note that this is the only appearance of any supernatural thing she has seen in her entire life, id imagine it to be more then once if it were a medical problem?[/QUOTE]

All these could be true, I have had multiple encounters with "Fluffy" the tophat-wearing pink elephant when I have been high.

Again as I said before, this concept is a perfect way of keeping people in line and stopping the never-ending demand for evidence.

    Anti-Christian/Atheist Quotes

like i said, we think the same things about each other....its just a circle.

it still amazes me how other religious people, some Muslims..Hindu's, still feel theres something more. Or someone who has never heard of Christianity still feels like theres something more. I agree that the area you are born in will persuade this gap though.

    a satisfied Hindu though?
i look at this following picture and to me it looks like Christianity is growing (like a fire in a field)...and will overcome those areas.

some people i suppose, i feel no need to know how i got here....or where i will go after death. If i "vanish" so be it. I still have a win win situation though....yet i hate to bring that into play because its not the reason i believe, its just something nice to know i guess.

Heres my either or fallacy i believe to be true: either energy has always existed, and we will disappear after death (the question still stands how energy can produce life, sounds like Frankenstein all over again)...or God has always existed, and if he cares about humanity, which i feel he does, he has imprinted a message on this Earth, that shows the way to heaven, that has greatly impacted the Earth (Christianity) and I will go to heaven after i die. Or maybe God has no plan for us, were just sitting here to live, die, and vanish...makes less sense then a caring God though (the question still stands why he created us). Theres not a single other option that i have ever seen.... what makes more sense to you?

You are a total idiot. "Proof (is proof supposed to be possible)?" - Nobody said that there was supposed to be proof. That is exactly why you can't disprove Darwin or any other Scientist or Theory. God does not exist. Prove he does and I'll believe it.

"My mom was in a stressful mood one day, before she went to bed she prayed to God and said that she was feeling very stressed with life and wanted to know that he was there

sounds like you should just leave this to dpunk... :)

why would i want to prove Darwin wrong?

and you obviously didn't read the "is proof supposed to be possible" section...or you would have thoughts otherwise. The quote i was referring to said God does not exist because there is no proof, me saying "is proof supposed to be possible" tells of how "proof" of Gods existence would completely destroy the purpose of human existence. (God WANTS us to CHOOSE to follow him...not be some mindless droids)

i request that you dont, there still a lot of things you need to hear and a choice that still has yet to be made.

Indeed...one side is too brainwashed to see and the other sits and laughs at them...draw your own conclusions as to which side is which...

This map isn't 100% correct. It just states the areas of dominant religion. Also not everyone who will say in a survey that they are a Christian even knows what it means to be one. They just put it as a default based on what the people around them are. There are convicted rapists who will tell you they have been Christian since they were 6 years old.

This is one thing I despise about religion. The "If it isn't true I haven't lost anything" explanation. What you have lost is your entire life to a false belief. I don't want to waste my life, its all I'm ever going to have so I might as well put its focus on truth.

    why not?
(ill update the title of the statistics to help maybe...)

same may apply to all religions. Some Muslims are born Muslims, some Muslims are killed if they switch religions (they view it as a battle)...conclusion is that it shows that Christianity is still dominate.

why cant someone who has raped or killed be a Christian?
    (God is forgiving)

i still see where your going with this point, it still doesn't defeat the fact that Christianity is the dominate religion, more importantly.....something that has obviously impacted the world greatly, for a reason (opinion).

yea i said that its not something i like to bring up...and i mentioned why its not THE reason i believe. I also don't feel like its some huge task to be a Christian, most don't even spend 1% of there day (15 minutes) with God...

There is no logic behind god. Only a myth.

Edit: I'm going to read your post and waste half my life ;) I'll respond later.

    Anti-Christian/Atheist Quotes

You say you're athiest because there can't be a God, I say I do because I have eyes.

This thread is pointless, it's basically just bashing all christians.

You say you're athiest because like pyro said, you truly are blind, by your own ways, someone called religious people ignorant? Ignorant are you, you fool.

Look around, do you think we popped out of a rock, do you think the world popped out of an even larger rock? People who are athiests are simply afraid of the truth, afraid because they want earthly pleasures and earthly desires. It's for the weak who can't control those desires.

There is no logic behind God? Show me logic behind no God.

Open your eyes, if you are truely not blind. Show me where is god, show me where he is. You just basically said there is physical evidence of his being.

The fact that there is absolutely NO proof whatsoever that there is a god.

Also, the entire "if you dont believe in god/jesus, no matter who you are or what you've done, you're still going to hell forever and ever" thing isn't helping matters either.
