I feel like microtransactions (even pre-EOC) were a bigger contributor to why RS started dying..

Yeah releasing things like squeal of fortune, runecoins, etc. went against their own policy on how "your real world wealth should not affect your ingame experience" (which is the main reason why RWT is against the rules). It just looked like a desperate move by Jagex (whether it was or not) and it definitely made me lose a lot of respect for them as a company.

I feel they couldn't keep that wow factor that many new players had. People stopped coming in, so they did their best to keep their existing audience. But as they slowly start to fade out, so will the game.

Not really, the game has been in a decline since 2007, and it wasn't the EOC that made the difference between having 100k players online to 50-60k.

I'm at the exact point as you are, the game just isn't the same anymore.

If you or anyone else had to guess based on the current active user base (players online at a single time) How active will the game be next summer?

Personally i think 07 is dying slowly due to the fact that the developers don't fix the content that needs to be fixed and keep on giving out new content

I think that RS3 is a new game completely separate from what the OLD Runescape was like. Call me old fashioned but I felt like the pace of the game was moving too fast for my liking. I loved Runescape for how casual and slow paced it was, not this explosion of abilities and numbers on the screen (EoC, im looking at you here).
I was nearly maxed in all skills in RS3 before switching to old school. I felt like the micro transactions were incredibly intrusive to the overall game play (like literally unable to click on certain parts of my screen without opening a web pop up).
As of now, I am playing OSRS only and loving every bit of it!

Why everyone just see bad things about osrs? I'm old school player and i enjoy every minute of the game and dont see it dying in the nearest future (maybe i refuse to see, i dont know)

This. I don't mind the faster xp rates as its nice to feel like im actually making progress since I'm a filthy casual, but the combot system and the simplicity of most things is what I miss.

    The Future of Runescape

Unlike most people, I am optimistic about Runescape's future. I've played Runescape since 2007 and had times where i quit and thought I was done, but I realized if people are still passionate about playing a game, it will continue to exist and even thrive. Runescapes future in my opinion is based on how many people Jagex are appealing to and how many people want to continue playing over time.

I think that 07 will become more popular than the new Runescape 3.

Jagex royally fucked themselves over with EoC in my opinion. They tried too hard to make the gamestyle more like WoW with alts and abilities. That's not what Runescape is. At least, that's not what they should have done, but I don't have a solution to it either. EoC blows, for the most part. They have their dedicated fanbase for it, most likely those who had experience playing WoW already, but they should have never taken out RS3. RS3 was prime. I don't think Runescape has much left. We'll see different game modes come out, trying hard to pick up activity, then they'll monetize the game even more while they have semi-decent activity and that's where everything will crumble.

Potential growth i would assume, Jagex investing $10,000 into a player tournament may seem like a decimal of what they make but it shows community/developer interaction. I have a feeling Jagex may start investing into heavy advertising again to promote their servers but who knows :p

If you guys could do something to attract new players to Runescape, what would you do?I am referring more towards Oldschool version, due to the fact that it's a real game for me.RS3 is just some kind of gimmic and a fake reflection of what Runescape truly is.

The reason Runescape 3 has died out so much and the veteran players have quit is there were way too many unwanted updates. EOC being the biggest. With Oldschool, since this is their last chance you can tell they're trying very hard not to fuck things up. However even if Jagex runs oldschool perfectly, which they haven't (World DDoSing, Dupes). That's not going to stop the game from dying. Regardless of what happens people will still get bored of RuneScape, Grow up, Get a Job, or whatever it may be. I can see Oldschool surviving for 4-5 years at the most. For those who make money off of RuneScape, always remember nothing in RuneScape lasts, always have a backup plan.

I think OldSchool has a long life left. Jagex is putting quite a lot of effort into it. Deadman mode is definitely gonna give some fresh air to the game

Twitch and iron man mode has done amazing things for osrs. I think in a few years time the community will be very similar to it is today. From personal experience almost everyone eneds up coming back to Runescape and very rarely do people quit.
