Looking to get into script making. Wondering which client I should start with

I'm a longtime Runescape player (as in I played back when RS classic was around) and I recently graduated with a BS in computer science and am looking to potentially write scripts for my own personal use.

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to start?

In particular, can anyone give me an explanation of what's the difference between say Topbot and Tribot?

I'd prefer to work with a client/API that uses Java, but I'm fine with other languages as well so if there's another client that's simply better, I'm fine going there as well.

Learn Java for like a month unless you already know the language, in which case you should just watch a quick 1 hour YouTube video to remind you of the basics.

After that, I started off scripting by reading a bunch of tutorials and snippets and attempting to make my own script from scratch. My first one was meh, so I'd recommend actually following a tutorial on how to make your first script and then start exploring on your own like I did. After you make your first basic script solo, just start making more and more difficult stuff. There is a pretty big difference between skills, i.e. Woodcutting vs Fletching vs Hunter vs Combat but once you made a script in each category it just becomes repetition with a thing or two changed really. I'd also recommend sharing one of your sources like a month in with someone so they can point out what could be improved/done in a better way.

RS07 bot APIs are extremely similar. I ported over two of my scripts to all the bots to check them out and it took like no time at all. The difference is really the extra features of each bot's API and what's broken and not broken in each bot's API. Most bots have a small chunk of the API that's either buggy as fuck or totally broken so people end up writing their own for some stuff (It's not hard at all).

 

Thanks Vlad. The main thing I was wondering is which client to start on. Although since you replied to my post on a separate forum, I think I have my answer as to which one you mostly use

I've worked with Java both in school as well as professionally for a few years so I'm set there. I'll start working on some stuff on my own and then definitely try and post them to get other people's reviews.


One additional question I have for you: Are there certain features on individual clients that are just far out better? For example Tribot advertises its antiban/randomization features that try to make the bot appear more natural, is this something that it has against the other clients? Or is it just better at advertising it?
