Laptop worth fixing?

The specs^

Screen is totally broken, and the battery is pretty much worn out, so that's about €100-€200 in repairs already.


Is it worth restoring it with these specs? If I were to fix it up I'd install a SSD, the full 16 gb of RAM the motherboard says it supports.

You could always hook it up to a monitor and leave it plugged in. That solves both those problems if you don't mind it being stationary.

 

Yeah I need it for on the move though, the funds are no problem, i just need to know if it's worth it to fix this machine.

What's broken for the screen? Is it just the front face for the display or the entire top half? Batteries don't cost too much to replace either, and with the laptop specs I'd make the repairs and upgrade the RAM.

If it is more cost effective for you, buy a desktop.

 

The plastic is broken and the screen itself is broken too. About 40% of the screen is dead

I plan to use it as a main computer for the office, and as a laptop when I'm home. I have a desktop at home, but this would be a great means of taking my work data home, and from home to work without having to email myself a load of data.

The question is if it's worth it to spend €200-€300 to fix this laptop, or if it's going to remain a piece of shit. If it's going to be slow or if the hardware is extremely outdated I'd buy a new laptop.

 

A SSD will probably make a noticeable difference if you choose to install one, and I can imagine that RAM upgrade would too.

Yes, it is worth fixing.

LCD screens on a laptop is usually very easy to fix (replacement screens don't usually cost too much either).

The HDD is "okay", but an SSD is a nice upgrade for loading times (though it is not essential).

The RAM is okay, unless you need more.

Just make sure that you upgrade it for the long term, and not short. Aside from that, don't hesitate to ask again should you require assistance making deciscions in the future.

 

Yeah I would personally spend the money and have it fixed.

You could also look into buying a new laptop and just transferring some components.
