    A couple weeks ago I sold an account to Krillex.

    Everything went well, until a week or so later the account became locked. At this point I tried helping Krillex recover the account to the best of my ability but I was unable to. I told Krillex I would contact the original owner and see if he could help recover it, however he hasn't responded back yet.

    I have agreed to refund Krillex half of the payment because we're both at a loss here and you can't really blame either of us.

    I'm down an account, and he's down 250M RS3, so I believe it is only fair to split the loss and thus I offered him 125M in compensation. Krillex did not accept the offer and instead insisted on receiving the full 250M.

    So, my question is obvious, how much should I refund Krillex, if at all?

    *Note that he was also sharing the account with Stake of W54 ranks, namely Lorenzo(King).
    So if anything, the lock was the result of his account sharing habits.
    Also, I don't see why I have to be responsible for him getting the account locked.
    I didn't provide any sort of warranty stating I would refund him if the account became locked.

    yeah just confirming what CompileTime said is correct. The one thing that's incorrect is that only one person has logged onto the account, and that is King. I'm not allowed to stake on Kings accounts because I don't have the stream key and all hosts must stream their stakes. Some ranks can confirm this who are on Sythe, but I think it's better if a mod goes to stakes.teamspeak3.com to just ask an admin about it if they want to. Doubt any host wants their identity revealed in case somebody IP Grabs and DDOSes mid-stake

    Here's my convo with King relevant to this account. Once again I won't give out his Skype address but if you want to confirm with someone on the team speak you are more than welcome.

    I believe that because CompileTime lives in Canada, and King lives in the Netherlands, the change in location could have caused an automated account lock. It would be much easier if Compile's friend can recover the account safely. I cannot do so because it doesn't allow me to just enter my email the way a normal recovery would; instead, it requires me to put in information such as billing statements, previous passwords, etc. which I do not have.


    As for the rule breaking piece -

    Below are two images I get when attempting to log into accounts. One, the first, is locked. This is Compile's account The other, the second, is banned.

    When I try logging into Compile's account on OSRS, I get this (Backspaced User and Pass for safety reasons can PM mod details):

    Account dealings are quite probably the most complicated ones to deal with for several reasons. Nobody knows who got the account locked for starters. I would recommend Krillex contact Jagex and ask why it was locked and see if he can get an answer. How we usually deal with these if they are locked for any other reason than rule breaking is in a line of regression. You would be responsible for Krillex's loss and the original owner would be responsible for your loss, for example. As for your concerns over how you are responsible; if you are using your reputation and name to sell a product, the buyer is buying that product in confidence that it is YOU that is selling it to them and not some distant original owner they've never even heard of.

    I know moderators are busy people with lives, but can anyone please make a verdict, or at least update Compile and me on this? I don't want to directly contact Jagex about the account lock because if they decide to investigate, they will realize who has been on the account (King) and either ban it, monitor it for RWT and cause him to get banned mid-stake and have to pay back out of pocket. They may possibly ban the current account he is using as well, which is also mine.

    It is clear that the account is locked, not recovered or banned. It still shows as locked. Compile's friend needs to unlock it from his home IP but if he doesn't respond (he hasn't in 10 days now) then I can't and won't be able to get the account in my possession.

    The seller is always responsible for returning the account to your possession if you forget the password, the account gets stolen, or it gets locked. Account locks are an extremely simple matter for the original owner to handle. As an account seller, you implicitly assume these risks, you do not need to spell it out in your thread.

    Since apparently this has been going on for some time, my recommendation would be for you to refund Krillex for the full amount and then when the original owner comes on and unlocks it, you can make the account sale again. It's a shit situation but again, as the seller you take on responsibility for these events

    Alright. I did not know these risks were implicitly thrown onto the seller but I accept your verdict.

    I will refund Krillex in full ASAP, please close this thread.

    Yes and likewise this means the original owner is equally liable for unlocking it for you
