Gay Marriage

Well it's official. It's legal now in all 50 states. Ruling was 5-4. Personally am kind of bummed because I was against it.

It was bound to happen. It doesn't effect me in anyway so I'm not opposed to this notion.

I was so happy when I read this. Maybe the ignorant hatred that has been running rampant in this nation is starting to roll back, if just a little bit. Everyone deserves the same rights.

 

Doesn't really make sense to me, isn't marriage a religious thing? And it says being gay blah blah isn't allowed? Therefore, you wouldn't be able to get married.

I don't really agree with it because it's just encouraging gay people to become parents, I don't agree with having a kid with two dads or two mums because that kid is not gonna have 1 of each gender bringing them up. I think everyone needs a mum and everyone needs a dad (not both).

I'm not against gay people at all, I just don't see the need for getting married. Civil partnership / union is fine.

 

I guess it's a personal thing; I just don't believe in it perhaps. Are you really "born with it", or is it personal choice? Personal choice is what I would say.

I do believe however, no one should be discriminated based on their sexual orientation. "No gays allowed to work here", I would be against strongly.

Forgot to add, homosexuality is a no-no for Christianity right?. If you are a preacher of the religion you practice, where being gay is not okay, and then the Supreme Court of the US rules no denial, you are going to be forced to wed people that are not allowed to be in your church. How is this okay? I'm not a Christian but this thought provokes me.

 

This is quite possibly one of the most ignorant and close minded things I've ever read. It doesn't matter if a child has 2 mothers, 2 father's, or a mother and a father. What matters is how the two parents raise the child together.

A child raised raised by a lesbian couple or a gay couple is no different than a child raised by a single mother figure or a single father figure in my eyes, and ultimately, is more than likely better off raised by a gay couple than raised by a single parent. What matters is that the child has a stable and structured upbringing. Not the gender of the parents.

Strait up I'm not a fan of homosexuality, generally speaking I'm not a fan of your average homosexual either. BUT just because I don't dig it doesn't mean they should be deprived of basic rights. I'm a believer of equal rights across the board, even for people and or peoples I may not particularly like, agree with or understand.

 

Lol this is where you might want to change your wording. It is quite different in many ways. When you need motherly love, where are you going to get it when you have 2 dads. When you need a father to direct you in becoming a man/woman in ways that a woman cannot, where are you going to get it when you have 2 moms.

Yeah you can find father/mother figures in the people you meet, but it's not the same thing and some people aren't fortunate enough to find that in others.

However, I am completely content with equal marriage rights. Parenting rights? That's another topic.

 

This is just dull and ignorant.. What if you have a feminine dad or a masculine mum? It doesn't make a difference. Any responsible parent or parents can bring up a child to be good. Gender doesn't matter.

You can't choose who you are attracted to. Did you decide to be attracted to women when you were aware of sexuality/attraction or was it just something innate in you? It was innate, you don't tell yourself to be attracted to someone, you just are attracted to them. Just like people may only solely be attracted to thin people, brunettes, athletic people and so on - some people have gender preference.

If you were against it, you are discriminating, because gay couples wouldn't have the same status as heterosexual couples.

You can be a celebrant or a humanist and marry a couple. You don't have to be religious per se. A religious minister can still have the free reign to not do a service I would imagine, but not all religious people will deny it. Even so, not all Christians say that it's against God's will, only some do. Which leads you to think it's probably just personal bias, considering there isn't anything solidly stated in the bible about homosexuality. Plus, only God is meant to judge people and allow them to Heaven. Do ministers deny all sinners or only homosexuals? Hmm.

This is the attitude the people running a country should have. Yes, overall the vote was a success but for 4 to still deny it is ridiculous. You shouldn't have to understand or even be okay with something to accept that everyone should be equal as long as they aren't hurting anyone or doing any harm.

You can get married in other ways, that don't include a church ceremony.

 

I feel the same way. I don't believe in marriage anyways so I couldn't care less about who gets married.

 

smh this is just disgusting. What if my kid catches the gay virus now that you're allowed to be gay in public? At least let them wear masks or something so it's not as contagious or make them wear a label that tells everyone who's gay and who isn't like the Nazis did to the Jews during WWII, that's the kind of mindset we should have. Legalizing being gay is just awful, you're gonna be encouraging more people to be gay. As a matter of fact I even saw this documentary style comic strip that explains exactly why you shouldn't let gay people out in public:

And you don't think only having your father around (and not your mother) would have influenced you into joining the military? Not that I'm saying you SHOULDN'T have joined the army, just maybe only having your dad around influenced it.

I still disagree anyway, you need a mum AND a dad to raise you properly, even if your dad is a bit "soft", he is still your dad. You don't see two males or two females raising their young in the animal kingdom.

I would say gender does matter. You should have 1 male and 1 female raising you, not two of each as you will get raised differently. All this stupid "gender fluid" thing going around doesn't make any sense either, what you have downstairs is what you've got. Even a sex change isn't going to change your chromosomes.


Next thing you know you are going to be having bi-sexual people saying they should have the right to have a double marriage of a male and a female at the same time.

Unless you've had your karyotype examined you don't know what chromosome makeup you have. XX and XY aren't the only chromosomal compositions there are. AFAB people can have XO, XXX, XXXX and XY chromosomes and AMAB people can have XXYY, XYY and XX chromosomes. You could have one of these chromosomal quirks and not know, so chromosomes aren't the be all and end all. One simple gene can change the chromosomes of a foetus:

You really shouldn't make an argument unless you research it or know what you're saying first. Do you know what chromosomes are even?

Similarly, intersex people exist. So we have people with the matching set of identity and genitalia, people with both genitalia and one matches their identity, so why not genitalia that don't match our identity? I mean just because you or I don't understand it doesn't mean someone can't make a life choice that doesn't affect anyone else and live that way.

We are able to rationalise and make choices that other species can't, should be aiming to forward our species' development, not halter it because we should act like animals.
