Dog Meat Festival in China Thoughts?

What are your thoughts, I personally think this is disgusting. But can you compare this too all animals that are consumed?​

 

They eat cats and we eat cows. Who cares. You shouldn't criticize a culture because you don't fully understand it.

 

I understand where you are coming from but the way they treat the dogs before they are killed is disgusting, I heard on the radio today that they believe the more scared and terrified the dogs are before they kill them the better they will taste. If you watch the video you can see that it is horrible how they are treated.

 

I honestly don't think this is wrong.
Everybody eats all kinds of animals.
It's part of their culture.

Not really. If murder isn't wrong torture certainly can't be.

Anyway, I wouldn't be especially interested in trying dog. Nor would I especially enjoy knowing that they were tortured first.

Animals that are prey generally taste the best.

 

I really hate animal cruelty, anything that has to do with it. But I'm not against the fact that they eat dog, I mean it´s normal for them, just like in Peru they eat doves. The only thing is that we all should kill animals with the less possible suffering, at least that is my opinion.

Many domestic animals are eaten. What makes a dog different? I find it repulsive, but that doesn't mean they're wrong for eating it.

 

So why not torture prisoners before they are executed? Why not break all of the dogs legs and let them live in agony a day before the slaughter? Just because you kill the animal does not mean you have to make live in agonizing pain and terror. Humane slaughter is possible.

Nothing wrong with eating one animal over the other in my opinion, but they do treat these dogs horribly before they are slaughtered.

Dog kidnappings are also common, especially around the time of the festival.

 

I am guessing you are vegan, or at least vegetarian then.

 

I saw a story on CNN yesterday, actually, about this. It's nothing I would engage in, but I don't necessarily disagree with it. That being said, "scaring" the dogs before killing them is unacceptable as it would be with any other animal in my opinion. I also don't eat veal or support it in any way.

 

Not at all, I didn't express my thoughts the way I should, wasn't meant to say the part "anything that has to do with it" because I eat meat. Even though I would like to say the meat I eat is gotten from slaughterhouses where animals die without suffering or within good conditions, etc. I know it's probably not. What I was meant to say is that I'm against the animal suffering before the slaughter, I mean, I don't find any logical reason as to why an animal should be tortured before being killed, I'm sure there is not a single scientific proof that it enhaces the flavor or whatever reasons.

 

Part of their culture; our cultural association with dogs is solely domestication, and clearly theirs is not.

It's their culture. I understand we kill animals cruelly too but I don't see festivals where the west are slaughtering animals for fun too often.

Doves are a game bird. Just like in Peru they eat guinea pigs. In the rocky, mountainous terrain it is hard to raise masses of livestock and you can easily make a sizeable farm of them in a small space. Pigeons were brought to America for food, but people don't eat them now. Lobster was fed to prisoners in Maine because people thought it was garbage, look at it now. It's all cultural perception. Animal cruelty is a different discussion entirely.
