Mandatory military service

Hey everyone. Today I saw a famous runescape youtuber, 'A friend' make a video announcing he is forced into mandatory Lithuanian military training, and he is thinking of dodging the draft. The kicker is he claims he will be jailed 2 years if caught dodging.

Any thoughts on this? Do you think this is a huge violation of your rights? I personally feel it is silly and that if they really want to find people to volunteer then they should pick men who contribute less to the society and not people who earn more than the doctors do in Lithuania.

 

I also watch A friend all the time, and I mean some countries demand that people do mando military service that's just how it works. He didn't say he would be jailed for sure, he was going check before he fled. A friend doesn't contribute to society... just because he makes more then doctors in his country.. infact I would also pick someone who sits on there ass because other people who have jobs in the society contribute far more then him.

Not saying I'm supportive of mandatory military service, but in certain situations its not only viable.. but necessary.

Its pretty crazy to think about WWII in that regard, they shut down factories to make tanks and other equipment. Hell there were 1-2 years where new cars simply didn't come out. The textile mills, factories, mines ect were all repurposed to benefit the war. Since all (most anyways) the men were drafted the women had to take up their jobs, hence riveter Rosie and the other propaganda icons.. Civilians goods were all rationed, everyone sacrificed.

Seriously if you think some faggot who has a moderately sucessful youtube channel is more important than a doctor (of any fucking kind) simply because you think he makes more money (as though that somehow makes him a national fucking treasure) then you are completely fucking deluded and likely underage. A youtuber contributes nothing whatsoever to society as a whole.. A doctor saves or at the very least improves lives. Strong autism.

Idk where do you live but here on mother Earth we value people by the amount we pay them, if person A gets paid more than person B then clearly he is valued more.

Yes, that's exactly the case. The only thing that seems to matter to the masses is cash. I understand that teachers,doctors etc should be more valued but we just value entertainment that much more, end of case.

 

Only 3000 men between the ages of 19-26 are being chosen.... Chances are extremely low. It's not like they're sending him to war. What a disgrace to his own country, i'd be extremely salty if i was chosen but i wouldn't RUN AWAY. Just because you're selected doesn't even mean you'll be sent to the training, you have to pass a physical and other things.

While it may ring true with some people I don't believe the bulk of the world look at everyone else with dollar signs in their eyes. People who BENEFIT from the high rollers (the govt taxing them) may feel otherwise. The common man does not benefit from the money in the upper crusts pockets, but from the services and contributions of his fellow man.

 

It wouldn't be difficult to fail the medical. However, national service in my opinion is a great way of teaching youngsters discipline and respect. Which we pretty much lack here in the UK.

 

All depends on the circumstances. If someone were invading my country and I have a family and children damn right I'd volunteer but as for military service itself it's highly unlikely that I would go to another country to partake unless it was securing the safety of my family back home. In his case it seems like running isn't the right option in my opinion.

 

From where I am from (South Korea), it is normal and not many people try to dodge it. Some people flee the country and if they do they are not allowed back in the country and they will be labelled a criminal I believe.

I personally think mandatory is good, it trains people for the future.

Im currently in the military and have been for almost 6 years now. I was not forced into service tho. Having said that I can understand that the military is not for everyone but most people think military they think of killing people and gun fights and bombs when truth be told that is only a very small part of the military. Most peoples jobs don't envolve any combat. 90% of service members are behind a desk or fixing things on base. So its not all that bad. Money is good, you don't have to worry about housing, bills, food. So id tell him just do the time they want him to do and it will be over before he knows it. Not worth going to jail over and its a great service to his country.

 

The military isn't for me personally, but if I lived in a country where mandatory service was a thing I wouldn't run. As the above poster mentioned most people don't go into the military to be front line soldiers. Most countries don't even have an extended required service time either, I believe it is something like 6 months to 2 years and it is more like national guards than it is actual military service.

 

You're very naive if you think earnings determine your level of contribution to society. You're stupid if you think he is more valuable to society than a doctor.

No you mis interpreted my example. I don't know if Lithuania has welfare cases, but here in Canada, especially quebec, there is an infestation of overweight, jobless people who sit on their ass all day who cash in on tax payer money with a beer in hand and don't work. THOSE are the people I was inferring to. As a side note, I'd like to mention I think it would be great if those type of people had priority in events such as a draft simply because it would provide them a job and help the economy and get them off their ass. But no I do not think a youtuber is more valuable than a doctor, I was simply stating in an objective point of view that a youtuber in that country helps the GDP more and is therefore more valuable in that respect, in that country.

He's worried about his current career, he knows his YouTube career would be destoried, look at RuneShark. When they tried to come back they didn't even get 1/4 of the viewers they had before they quit. YouTubeing is 100% of his income if he looses that he'd be in a bad position.
