Debate: Is Runescape a waste of time?

If you're going to work and coming home to chill on some RuneScape, it's not really a waste of time.

It's the people that let it consume their whole day when they should be out working that make it a waste of time.

 

If you're not using Runescape as a means of profit it is a waste of time.

Anything that does not build foundations in your life is...

Start building a life and land and possessions to pass on to your children.

 

If it's fun/entertaining for you then it's not, if it's getting to the point where it feels like a chore it is.

I feel where you're coming from. Years ago I was questioning things like OP, and came to Add's conclusion. It was great to not only play games all day, but to establish business relationships and provide for myself via a video game.


At the same time, I feel video games, like anything else, can be bad for you in excess. Excess is subjective

 

No, it's not a waste of time. The key being "everything in moderation". Don't spend every day of your summer playing 8+ hours of Runescape.

Go out and find a job if you don't have one. Do something instead of grinding out on Rs. Work 8 hours a day, go to the gym for 2, and play Rs for 4 or 5 hours. Ultimately it's up to you to decide if you're wasting your time on Rs.

I think if a person enjoys it in their leisure time, it's definitely not a waste of time. But if someone plays excessive amounts over other more important things in life, it becomes more of an addiction rather than a time waster.

At the end of the day, if someone enjoys lifting weights, they'll lift weights in their free time. If someone enjoys playing runescape, then hey, who's to say they can't do that in their free time .

It depends on the person, some people enjoy it and some people just want to waste time cause they have nothing to do and are depressed with their lives and just want to waste time.

 

It's such a waste of time playing 10+ hours, a few hours is fine. But think about the other things you could of accomplished in the years you spent of RS. You'll quit this game sooner are later, I cant imagine playing this when I'm 20+ with a job etc.

you could have better spent that time reading, exercising, socializing, going to college. we live in a generation of man children with too much free time and no purpose in life.

 

As we all learned growing up, I believe it's best in moderation.

I would play all the time throughout middle school and high school. The minute school ended it's what I did. Do I regret the hundreds maybe even thousands of hours? No, I learned a lot about computers, I met awesome people, and I was having fun in my youth.

But the key is to find a balance between playing and other activities. I've seen most replies so far saying "so long as you are happy and you enjoy it". This is absolutely true BUT I believe to 'enjoy' it the most it should be played in moderation.

For example. Eating candy makes us happy, but if we eat candy all day every day there will be consequences and we will not enjoy the candy as much since we can have it whenever we want. But if you find a balance and maybe limit yourself to a few pieces of candy per day you're golden and happier.

If you debate this you'd have to debate any other video game ever along side it. Just like watching a show, movie, taking a drive, using the bathroom, sleeping, or any other number of things we do it is time consuming and of course anyone could be doing something else with their time but whos to say that something else would be any less of a "waste".

 

put it like this if runescape is a waste of time then sythe would be because sythe was open based on runescape at the start

 

This is what I always think whilst playing this game is it worth it? I don't nerd this game, I like to split up the times that I play so I'm not always playing so I go to the gym go out and then when there is nothing to do and I'm stuck inside I might as well just play a bit of runescape. But when i am playing I'm still here asking my self is it worth it.

 

If you enjoy it then no. Other's play other games and consoles, why can't you enjoy a mmorpg like RS? It's the same thing and the classic content that always brings me back. And I'm 22.. And I serve in the military. I will always love the nerd inside! hahaha don't worry about what others think man. Just enjoy yourself and apply yourself to the things that make sense in life. Obviously prioritize. Like what's wrong with pking once in awhile just like a game of CoD or BF4 lol?
