    Is WoW dead??

All I've been hearing lately (on forums, in real life and in-game) is that the game is dead. Playing it sure seems to feel that way, the content right now is seriously lacking and the player base is just as mediocre as ever. Blizzard just recovered from one of the lowest points (subscribe wise) in their history. What do you think? Is the game dead? Do you still play?

I think whats happened to Runescape is happening to WoW.

As the game goes through the years, content updates and changes and the core players eventually lose interest in the game. Of course, there's always the influx of players coming back every expansion, but then the same system happens. Expansion -> new content brings interest back in the game -> active playerbase dwindles over the years due to stagnant content -> content updates -> brings interest back in -> playerbase slowly dwindles as players lose interest. This cycle happens over a long period of time until a new expansion comes out. This and with the fact that players just love the vanilla aspect of games. Vanilla WoW to the current WoW, Rs2007 to the current eoc Rs, original counterstrike to CS:GO, original Modern Warfare to the newest call of dutys.

Although Jagex fucked up hard with EoC, I really wonder how they didn't see the drop in their active playerbase coming.

In my opinion, all these old games that are dieing need an economy reset. If RS3's economy was reset, more people will start playing that again due to a fair chance to controlling the market.

I wouldn't say it's dead, but removing large capital cities and replacing them with garrisons definitely makes the game feel dead, at least to me.

Agree with this. I tried Warlords of Draenor (my focus is PVP) but I didn't like it. MoP 5.4.8 was so much better and smooth gameplay. Quitted for good (untill a miracle happens ofc :) ).

They're certainly bleeding. I think they may have saved a few lost subs with the recent Game Time Token being available for in-game gold, but that kind of thing can only keep people around for so long. Once you hit level cap and just have to stand around in your garrison while re-running Mythic BRF with your guild for the 88th time, the fun stops.

I give it another 3 or 4 years before there's ~1,000,000 subs left as their dedicated player base.

To be fair, WoW will always be more popular than rs07/rs3 combined so IMO, no its dieing and it won't die anytime soon, it still has on the upside of 6Million (not 100% active) subs. That's alot.

I haven't personally played since around a week of finding out the WOD update, but then again I am hoping it picks up.

Garrisons have a huge part to play in that, it has taken the social aspect out of the game so you don't really see a lot of those players like you did in the Shrine that's why it looks dead.

WOD is boring as well, the raids are awful, and there is new content, back in MOP you had things to farm/grind and something to look forward to each raid reset.

That's not true at all, it's not a dead game or dead economy, the reason gold prices fell is because they introduced Game Tokens (like Runescape bonds) so there was more gold in the game being thrown around and for $15 you can get 40k on my server so obviously gold sellers will drop their prices so that their rates are better than a safe in-game service.

True, but the playerbase is dropping pretty rapidly.

There's some big changes coming with flying, hopefully to get people out of their garrisons and into the world. I haven't looked too much into it but I hope it helps getting people out into Draenor.
