Why do people call it "weed" when they should say "Marijuana". Yes Marijuana is a plant and government made it illegal. whoop de doo.

 

Why do people call it bud, herb, pot, ganja ect. Why is slang even a thing goddamnit?! One word to rule them all ect.

The argument implies very little if that is all that is said. A natural occurring plant is just part of the environment and if you banned everything that grew in said environment that could have harmful effects if willfully ingested then flowers,berries, or other plants that are not good to eat or smoke would have to be banned. I don't think just saying weed is a plant as a counter against prohibition implies that it is healthy. People are entitled to their opinion so if they think plants are beneficial to their health as a whole and should be accessible then allow them to express that without contempt. Everybody has a different perspective on things.

I myself have no idea how banning things like that would play out, but its foolish for a government to think they can get rid of something that is so easily produced.

as far as i am concerned these substances are completely safe if used moderately.

tobacco, i dunno... i personally don't understand why anybody would like tobacco at all, it provides no psychological benefit (a high) or anything else... and the taste itself is something that has to be acquired.

every single time i see something negative relating to drugs, it's 100% always because of improper use.


overdose, doing something stupid because of impaired judgement, etc.

I smoke both tobacco and marijuana recreationally. Your inability to understand "why anybody would like tobacco at all" can also apply to people who've tried smoking marijuana and also dislike both the taste and it's psychological effects. I've met more than enough people who've tried smoking pot and told me they dislike the habit, claiming it made them lazy, tired, and/or unproductive. From my experience, too many pot smokers fail to adopt an open minded view, instead repetitively attempting to push their own opinions regarding the benefits of marijuana onto other people. Marijuana, just like other drugs, comes with both benefits and side (along with potentially undiscovered) effects.

That being said, I do agree the "war on drugs" is incredibly unproductive and costly to taxpayers. Particularly the thousands of incarcerated pot smokers unnecessarily damaging the economy.

 

what i don't understand is if you're going to consume a substance for the sake of enjoyment, why not it be something that actually gets you high? doesn't necessarily have to be weed either.

i think part of the problem is everybody is so fixated on the legalities of things.

No one's arguing with you whether it's a plant or not, but as stated before in this thread; is that really a legitimate reason to legalize a drug, or should the arguments be based on other things such as medicinal purposes and benefits of "substance use" in relation to risk of health hazards? I'm not stating that weed is followed by any big health threats, I'm merely implying that it should be regarded as something valuable when discussing the legalization of illegal drugs.

Fyi, I'm all for legalizing marijuana across the globe.
