Weed is a plant

Alright, I'm all about smoking weed and chilling with life. I'm not here to judge anyone or say anything negative about weed, because I love and respect the lifestyle in all honesty. The only thing that bothers me is when people use the argument "weed is a herb", "weed is a plant" as a reason to legalize it. The argument implies that everything that is harvested from nature is healthy, and should therefore, be legalized. Opium is also a plant, doesn't mean it should be legalized lol.

Am I the only one who is bothered by this?

 

I think the main reasoning behind the "weed is natural" or "weed is a plant" school of thought is the fact that you can take buds right off a plant and get stoned where as other "natural" drugs (cocaine, opiates) require processing.

 

but it is just a plant,in fact its the most non-toxic plant known to man. Comparing opium to weed is the dumbest shit iv ever heard off. Please take your backwards ass thinking and keep it to yourself because some of us want the human race to advance.

just look at the stats from seattle and denver, But you keep holding onto your ideal "drug free world".

 

Opium requires processing but there's a plant with a fruit in the amazon that when eaten has very similar affects to opiates. So on the same coin simply because it can be taken right off the plant and get stoned doesn't make it safe but your post wasn't implying that.

Marijuana isn't the most safe plant known to man and implying that makes you look incredibly uneducated in botany.

On the same note I'm definitely not against the legalization of marijuana just claiming it is entirely safe with no side effects would be negligent.

if you look at it from a medicinal standpoint it is the "safest" medicine in the world if you wanna go that route. Look at the side effects prescription drugs cause, addiction, destruction of your own body, death, destruction of families etc... If you know someone who takes benzos for anxiety and they stop taking benzos they can legitimately die from the withdrawal symptoms. Benzo withdrawal is 100x worse than any opiate withdrawal, and they hand them out like candy. Im not saying you're wrong or what not but to say people deserve to be imprisoned for smoking weed recreationally or medically is absurd.

Drug addiction is a mental health issue, not criminal issue. Why not help these people get sober and actually become functioning members of society rather then putting them into some privately owned prison where some asshole is actually making money for keeping people in prison. In order to keep those prisons full, well you gotta go after the easiest targets. Low income non violent drug offenders aka black american pot heads.

 

There's many of non-toxic plants as-well and without much further research you cannot state it's the most non-toxic plant.

 

i can say that because in its 5000 years of recorded use not one person has died from marijuana poisoning(overdose).

I think both should be legalized. I call it a plant to point out how fundamentally absurd it sounds to ban such a thing.

 

My point is there's a million reasons to legalize weed, and not because it's a "plant".

 

Well yeah, obviously a fallacious appeal to nature isn't the best way to approach the argument but you have to remember the large majority of people aren't in the habit of critical thought.

Really you could make raw opium but scraping the plants bulbs and smoke that right off the plant, you can chew coca leaves right off the plant for a minute buzz. Same with tobacco, psilocybin Ect. A lot of things that are "natural" are god fucking awful for you, I was just saying the general school of thought is "natural=good/safe".

People who present the "weed is a plant/god made weed so it's safe" arguments tend to fall into the 14 year old and uneducated demographic. They honestly make all pot smokers look retarded. As someone who smokes recreationally, "weed is a plant" certainly isn't the reason it should be legalized.

That's actually not correct. You can technically overdose on THC, but it would be pretty damn hard. I think in order to actually die you need to ingest your weight in cannabis/THC... which is basically a metric fuck-ton.
