is it bad to leave your laptop, plugged in while playing it all the time?

is it also bad to leave your laptop open when not using it?

:noworry: It can kind of ruin your battery over time, but for most laptops you can turn it on with the battery in and then take the battery out. It should continue to stay on as long as it's plugged in.

Take battery out if you're leaving it plugged in all the time as it will ruin your battery.
And leaving your laptop on for downloads isn't "bad" for your laptop, it's the same as doing stuff on it.

Always take the battery out when you're using it at home. It will increase the lifetime of the battery by heaps.

Leaving it plugged in at all times will kill the battery quicker due to the voltage levels that it goes through while being plugged in. I don't see a problem with keeping it plugged in while you're using it, but once you hit 100% battery, it's a smart decision to unplug it and let it go down to around 45-50% then plug it back in.

Leaving the laptop open while not using it is kind of like leaving your gaming console on overnight to download games. Not sure how often you'd want to do that, but you definitely can.

If you plug in the charger to the laptop and then remove the battery the laptop will remain on. This saves your battery from degradation due to over-charging.
When the laptop is not plugged in is when the laptop uses the battery power. If you unplug the laptop charger without the battery installed it will just power off.

If you leave your computer/laptop on all the time it will unnecessarily wear the machine and it's life-span will be decreased. I have a friend who keeps his computer on always. He recently discovered it was overheating. To resolve the issue he had to reapply thermal paste so the CPU's heat actually transferred to the heatsink and dispelled the heat.
You probably won't have to do this but it just goes to show that leaving your computer on all the time can cause problems which may seem quite complicated or costly to resolve.

tl;dr turn the laptop off at night/when you sleep and it'll live longer

Keeping it open while not using it isn't a problem. But overcharging is a sure way to fry your battery eventually.

I always leave my laptop plugged in and I've had it for over 2 years. I haven't had any problems so far, but you should unplug it if you can.

yes, like others have said, just simply remove the battery when you're going to have it plugged in.

this'll save you your battery down the road

Basically confirming what other people are saying, having it plugged in 24/7 will kill the battery to the point in which the laptop requires it to be plugged into a constant power source to function properly.

Please note, if you unplug it mistakenly with no battery in, it will turn off automatically. So... make sure you're not doing homework that you forgot to save like i was :(
