I recall watching Joopii, the former staker and bug abuser stream during the summer off 2012. He openly talked about RWT on stream and said that Mod Reach pretty much allowed him to abuse bugs and RWT as long as he reported the bugs. Now, for all that I know he may have just trolled but I don't see why he would lie about such a thing. So I guess Mod Reach have been doing certain things to profit/help other people profit for a while.

 

I doubt it's easy to get away with something like that, especially considering his position. There is probably a global announcement somewhere in the office that signals all changes to be made. I imagine someone like a Mod Ash who oversees codes before they are made live. It would be stupid on their part to not do something like this.

 

Jagex won't tell us why they sacked him because he could sue them for defamation of his character - meaning he can't get employment elsewhere

Think about it though. Mod Reach writes code for Runescape. Let's say he releases an update that has 500 lines of code. Within that update, a total of 1-2 lines are him injecting a wealth generation bug. You really think it would be easy to notice? Keep in mind this guy would know the ins and outs of the system by now, and could probably hide a malicious piece of code VERY well within a medium-large sized update.

 

good riddance, rs will be a better place with one less cheat.

Sad to see him go, maybe Zeah is not going to be a possibility anymore. My thought was that it was a coverup my Mod Reach to hype everyone to then be able to change something in the engine which would be unoticed.

As previously stated it would be very interesting to gain some information of what he did.

You could hide a bug in a couple of lines of source code.

 

Doubt it. There has to be failsafes to prevent this exact thing. If I'm an employer, and I employ people who has privilege to edit code in a sensitive system, I'm going to make sure they don't get away with purposely adding game breaking codes, high status or not. I think you're undermining their system regarding this, and the person who oversees code. The only way I see him getting away with this is if the bug was unintentional, eg: Corp invincibility glitch. If Reach is as smart as you make him out to be, he wouldn't have gotten caught.

 

There are no failsafes. You can't just know code is right. It is extremely difficult to detect accidental bugs. If someone spend enough time to figure out a clever bug it could easily slip through and go unnoticed for years. What is more likely is that if he made a change that allowed him to do something, automatic systems caught massive amounts of wealth entering the system or something else along those lines.

 

This is sad, Don't Know how many people were abusing this, If there is a way to find out, should ban all accounts.
