What do you all think about it? There was a lot of speculation on how it would fare (flop, or start bringing wearables mainstream), pre orders opened up at 3:00 A.M. est (30 minutes ago) and multiple models are already backordered to May-June. Prices for the watches are as followed, Sport/Watch come with a sport band for the included price, any other bands are $150+ Sport: $350-$400 Watch: $550-$600 Watch Edition: $10,000-$17,000 Your thoughts on it? Thoughts on smart watches in general? Waste of money? A good start into wearable, but not needed? Decent looking watch, not worth the price tag?
Defernatly a waste of money I don't see the need for it or even how they can value them so high and for 10k - 17k I would much prefer a rolex
How is it not a waste of money? The sole purpose of a watch is to tell time. If you're willing to pay 70x the price of a conventional watch, you're stupid.
The soul purpose of a phone was to make and receive calls.. This, now is not the case. However, I do agree that it is a waste of money. I was going to develop for it but couldn't see my utilities being worn whilst in a work environment.
As many here state it's that it's very expensive for the special watch, but a watch has more purpose than just showing time nowadays. The reason you would buy the most expensive watch in their collection is to show your economical status. This is why there are rolexes with an incredible price range mostly bought to show status.
It's kinda ugly. Money better spent on a different kind of watch. I'd wait til a watch like the Apple Watch is more perfected, then maybe invest (if they stay popular -- which they probably will).
waste of money. I'd rather spend that money for something more stylish. I don't need the extra tech. I don't even use most of the functions of my phone
I don't like wearing watches so any watch is something I wouldn't buy with the Rolex being an exception (don't ask why, it's jewelry and I love jewelry). I don't like the thought of being strapped to technology literally and the prices are absolutely ridiculous. 18k gold for the Apple watch edition for 10k-17k? Fuck off.
Love the idea of smart watches when they're better and stand alone devices. But I think its ugly and overpriced and you need an iphone so ew.
Watch Edition: $10,000-$17,000 Anyone who treats $10,000-$17,000 like its only a couple bucks would buy it. imo, a g-shock watch is better
I do like smart watches, Never used one but have researched them before. I have never been a fan of Apple selling the $40 worth of tech for $400+, built to break before the next one is released. But anymore any piece of tech is made to not last more than a couple years, because if something is built to work for a long ass time they can't sell you a new one till it craps out. Usually when something is more expensive (such as apple) it lasts longer, but I have yet to see the proof.
I think smart watches will take over in the next few years - I know when I get constant notifications (emails/texts etc) my phone will buzz - sometimes they are important and are worth my time digging out my phone from my jeans or pants. Other times not as much - the only reason I see this as been good for me is a quick glance at the watch once notification has occurred (see what it is in a couple of seconds, and ignore or act) The price is always going to be over the top - its apple after all, and a new "hipster item" but it will evolve in time.
