How to Build a Gaming PC?

I'm saving up about $1000 to build a PC and I really have no idea what to buy. I don't know anything about building a PC. I want it to be able to easily run all games in the highest settings. If someone can point me in the right direction or give me any advice on what to buy, it would be much appreciated. :D

I don't think you could do that with a $1000 budget. The gtx 970 seems to fit the budget but it can't run easily run all games in the highest settings.

First tip when building a gaming PC: tailor your build for your budget, not your expectations. You expect to be able to play all games at max settings, but that'll end in disappointment particularly given even if you can play all current games, new games are going to eventually come out and blow your rig out of the water.

I'd actually use this site as a reference. A lot of feedback on builds and you can tweak the search based on price. (although be careful, it may say... 200+ meaning some components of the build are not listed, meaning the price is essentially higher than posted)

I disagree with your statement. My own rig contains an GTX 970 and an Intel I5-4690k Processor.

All the games i've played on new and old I have been able to run on max settings. A great example of this is that I was able to run Grand Theft Auto 5 with my setup on the highest graphical settings.

When it comes to the setup I recommend visiting the subreddit regarding building a pc, gives great information and tricks! Goodluck with your computer.

Ok, I've never built my own computer before either. However, I have researched the topic in consideration of building my own, and a close friend of mine used to build computers.

The best thing that I can tell you is that you need to do a good amount of research. Certain parts will work with each other and some won't, and it would really be a drag if you bought and assembled everything just to find that something wasn't compatible.

I was also once told to purchase the case last. Otherwise, space availability could very well become problematic since you'd really limit yourself on what you could get that would fit.

I apologize if anything I said is obvious. I am absolutely no expert on the topic, but wanted to offer what I could to help out :)

Building a PC is literally like building lego, you just take it 1 step at a time.

You don't need huge amounts of research it's just good to research alot and get familiar with the parts of computers so when it comes to building one, you won't be snapping your neck watching a video every 1 second and pausing to understand what you're doing.

I mean, I knew nothing about a computer and within 1 month I brought everything I needed and built my PC from scratch, chucked liquid cooling in there as well. (both CPU and GPU)

People like LinusTechTips and NCIX etc really do help out with teaching people everything they need know about building semi advanced PC's with closed loop liquid cooling, multi GPU's and what not.

Ok, I see. That is all really good to know. Especially the fact that LinusTechTips and NCIX are good resources. When I had been interested in building a computer, I had found it difficult to know where to go to get the information I needed. Thank you for that!

Obviously the SSD isn't needed, but they really do speed up boot times/general use. I left the case out because that's mostly opinionated.

yeah, I feel you. But if you're mostly going to be gaming and not much else, the boot times aren't really a big deal. Also, not like its very cost effective to store games with slow loading times on an SSD at this point. They're certainly not necessary but of course preferred. After getting used to one and then using a PC without one always feels slow.
