Just don't gamble. I don't see how that's so hard. You're making bad bets, so of coarse you'll lose money. Think about all the things you could of spent that money on. You could have taken an amazing vacation for that money, but instead you're feeling sick about the money you lost from a day and a half of gambling.

You need to get rid of everything that reminds you of gambling. Lose your club membership and cut up your credit cards.

You simply don't understand when you start it's really difficult to climb out of it when your down you wanna break even and leave that always never works, when you're up you think to yourself this is my last bet and i'm out of here, you lose that bet you try winning it back and lose more and more.
When you start gambling you think you'll walk out with profit and just stop which never happens.
The only way you can prevent yourself from gambling more is overcoming greed, that's pretty much it.

This issue is more common than you think. There are several support groups for this kind of addiction. If you do not want to stop gambling completely, try only bringing a fixed amount you are willing to lose. Also try to avoid drinking when gambling. Maybe try to find a different healthier hobby aswell. There are better ways to get an adrenaline rush.

What don't I get the more you bet the more likely you are to lose money. The expected value of each bet is a loss. You said it yourself it never works. So if you have those thoughts you're thinking irrationally.

It's not easy to stop gambling, either if you stop for a week or two or a month you'll want to come back and make profit that you lost before back.
There will always be a thought if your head of losing all that money and making it back and just stopping for good. The only way you can prevent yourself by gambling is staying busy not focusing on money you might win or the money you have lost in the past.
He needs to stay occupied and forget about the money he lost and money the money he won from gambling.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I'll start some old hobby again or something and see how that works. Your right on the money with how I feel about it all.

I had the same problem on rs, I bought $5,000 worth of gold and lost it all 50/50 gambling. What you have to tell yourself is, all the money you lost was just you having a good time, and not to worry about it. Put that part in the past, so you can focus on quitting. Tell friends to not let you go to the casino, or put your money somewhere where you can't have easy access to it. That's what I did, and it was fairly effective.

Go to a local GA meeting. They helped me get straight with gambling even though I was first skeptical about going. The routine helps and having people to talk to with similar experiences is awesome.

I've always been one to refrain from the actual gambling. I've never known the urge to risk losing a single dollar. I've had an addiction to smoking. Cold turkeying it was never useful for me. When i met my fiance.. everything changed. Good luck overcoming this obstacle in your life. May the odds forever be in your favor.

First off, you're going to have to stop thinking about winning back your losses. It's NOT going to happen. Just put all of that in the past and start fresh.
Second, cancel ALL of your gambling accounts/memberships, having those will simply encourage you to gamble.

Now, you're only gambling for entertainment it seems. Take your mind off it and fill in the void with other hobbies such as sport, watching tv, video games or pretty much do anything other than doing nothing as doing nothing will just make the urge stronger.
Whenever you feel the urge to gamble, simply step outside, take a few deep breaths, maybe even go for a walk or do an activity of your choice to take your mind off gambling.
Think about all those miserable moments where you lost thousands of dollars. Remember how much it hurt? Do you really want to make yourself feel that way again?
Eventually, after a month or two, the urges will subside and you wont think about gambling as much as before.

I wish you luck to conquer this addiction, i've been through the same thing and I know its hard, but with a little dedication, you'll overcome it.

Gambling can be a great time to pass the time and a lot of people are going to give you suggestion and you will hopefully make progress.

Firstly you are lossing and no longer having fun - this i a huge red flag that this has become an issue *clearly* - now you need to ask your self why do you gamble? Are you bored? Do you need to win the money? - I know the rush you get when your on a hot streak (poker and black jack player) however you can get this from other forms of entertainment which will not break the bank.

You need a distraction and need to set a limit - going cold turkey is a choose however you should be able to walk in with $100 with the wife/mates and have a good time and not have to hit up the credit card or "TICA/CREDIT" - you need self control. A self ban from the casino is plausible where I live (Australia - Brisbane) however doing this really shows that you do not have the self control needed (this may be something you need if you want to work on this by yourself or with a proffesional)

If you are gambling due to bordem - find something better to do, it is that easy. Still every couple months go out but when you lose your stake - walk away (leave the cards at home or speak with those you need to at your casino for no credit / no exceptions) You will have a good time and have fed that demon just a little

If you are gambling due to needing the money - stop it, invest your money in yourself (education etc) and work harder towards finacial independence.

I hope this helps ( I will not lie, I probally have rambled) - self control is key. If you need to speak please pm on here. Happy to talk, and that goes to any one with this issue (DO NOT PM ABOUT YOU ASS BEEN SORE - CAUSE WE ALL GOT THAT PROBLEM AFTER CHILLI NIGHT)

Thank you all for the encouraging replies. You have no idea how much it helps. At the time, I was extremely depressed. Yes it still hurts to think about, but life continues and bruises heal.

I'll always keep this thread in my mind. If I ever have the urge to splurge, you can "bet" that I'll be reading this thread again first.

Hope everyone here the best of luck in your life as well.

Whenever you go to the casino, or anywhere to gamble, just leave your credit/debit card(s) at home or in your hotel room. Only take a certain amount of cash and don't spend more than that.

    Good luck with your addiction

put money in a bank account that you can't withdrawal from unless you physically go into the bank. works like a charm. also cancel your credit cards they are horrid things, although you'll have to pay them off first to do that -_-

I only keep $200 in my account per week now everything else gets transfered and I canceled bank statements so IO have no idea how much i have and I kind of don't want to.
