Feedback required - Sythe logo

Not surprised to see people following the sheep narrative of keeping logos simple and boring. While most of the time a simple logo is the objective for high end businesses, this does not pertain to all, and in doing so restricts creativity and imagination. This is a black market forum that heavily supports fantasy games for intangible goods. Why is it far fetched to create a logo that embraces that description? It's encouraging to see Richard support that ideology.

My only criticism is the anticipation of a logo that looks too cartoonish. I hope you're able to avoid that, otherwise I see no problems. I like story behind the lettering as well.

As stated by others and Richard, a simple logo has no interesting features and doesn't bring a unique aspect to Sythe. Sythe's current logo also isn't that simple,
I had to create a logo which took into account the theme is a fantasy and gaming theme which complements the background. I think it'll look quite nice once finished.

The colours around it are optional.

 

You're welcome, and opinions bruh - if there was an option between a significant fantasy themed logo and a simpler one I'd choose the simpler one, I don't want to see a heavy graphic on every page personally.

The point of a logo is to be simple, eye-catching and something a person can easy remember.

look at the simplicity of professional company logos, Audi, Bmw, coke, pepsi, sprite, google and so on.

Your concept is more of a fancy picture that someone would use in a signature rather than a logo.

look at the current logo vs BMW, your point is invalid because the current logo is not simple.

It's a lovely graphic and it's clear you've put a lot of time into it, it's just most people want a front page (or top of forum in this case) logo to be simple and sweet.

Sythes current logo is shit and it proves that the community as a whole should never have a say in picking a logo. A logo needs to be a concise representation of a brand that incorporates theme and idea while remaining simple and memorable. That is basic graphic and marketing theory. The idea that a complicated logo design is okay because we are a black market forum is bullshit. A logo differs from a banner. A banner is about advertising and a logo is about branding and few people who haven't studied design know the difference.

 

I like it a lot, and I don't think logos have to be simple. I do think the S should be better defined to look more like an S.

 

And who earns this right to pick the logo? Sythe? Well if he gets to choose, you won't be happy either. If we aim for simplicity now, wouldn't that invalidate the current logo? I mean, a simple logo had a chance to win in that competition, but it didn't. Critiquing a logo for a primarily Runescape influenced market site as if it was an intricate business for legitimate tangible goods is silly. If we allow the community to decide, it would only prove that the majority finds it appealing, which is what Sythe and others are aiming for. And again, if we were aiming for simple, we would also have to change the background of the forum which has been around for god knows how long to compensate for that niche. Here is a good quote I picked up on that other thread.

If we're able to make an eye catching, yet subtle logo that supports multiple scaled down sizes without losing definition, then why not? It's going to be a trial and error process with this if this is taken into consideration seriously.

 

Facts are though Ghast is that Sythe is a brand and it's important to make something that will be interesting but not overwrought. There is a fine line there that goes from good logo to overdone.

 

Any update as to when you think you'll have it fully completed?

 

It's just too cartoon-y, in my opinion.

 

I'm withholding any kind of opinion until it's completed. I don't love the current logo so I'm open for other suggestions.

I've been extremely busy so i couldn't get this done sooner however here's an update,

In progress:
1. Shading on left corner of "T"
2. Shading on all of "H"
3. four elements (ignore those for now, i don't have time to finish them yet, i doubt they'll be used anyway)
