Is homophobia a bad thing?

Cba to read the entire thread, but most people who call themselves homophobic do not have any kind of fear/phobia of gay people, they just don't like them point blank.

Homophobia is a very misused term. I've actually met a lot of people who are disgusted by gay people and no one who has a phobia of them.

Let people be what they want

That's an extremely simplistic view of human genetic trends. First, somewhere between 3-4% of the U.S. population identify as something other than straight (and think of how many remain "in the closet"). Second, homosexuality canconfer genetic advantages. Example: There's something known as "group selection", where evolution acts on the group instead of the individual. Families with lots of children, and a few gay uncles/aunts, can devote a lot more time to raising those children.

 

I'm not a homophobic, so please excuse me if I get my words a little mixed up. I believe there are two types of homophobics in the world. The kind who are completely and totally terrified of homosexuals, and the type who just don't like them because they are different, or because their friends dislike them. I personally know these two types of people. My boyfriend is the first type of homophobic. Completely terrified for some reason. However, the guys I sit with at lunch just completely despise homosexuals for no reason at all except the fact they're slightly different. I also knew a boy who claimed he hated homosexuals, then came out of the closet two years later.

 

The guys you sit with at lunch, are they your friends?

 

What is there to be scared of gay people? Lol

 

Not exactly scared, but more of oppressive or hateful towards.

 

Which is why homophobia is such a terrible word for bigotry against gay people.
