Scammed by Alex2012, done with sythe.

Bought an account for $150 paypal a few weeks ago and the person retrieved the account the next day and paypal denied my appeals, so lost $150.

Decided to give it another go tonight, and was only willing to deal with very trusted members. Alex2012 messaged me on skype and we worked out a deal for his account, which came out to 45m 07 gold, he sent me a PM from his account so I knew everything was legit. After he gets the 45m gp he says "im quitting sythe, sorry for scam".

Nobody on this site should be trusted, and I don't know how anyone makes honest trades or purchases on here.

This community is nothing but scumbags and theives. Down $300 to scammers and have received nothing.

 

Read the stickies and take another screenshot of the conversation with their Skype Profile information showing in the shot. This was likely an imposter who played both of you.

 

Yea I figured it out and am trying to get a mod to remove the posts about this.

P.S. You're website is where i bought the gold from that I gave to him. LOL!

The pic shows the profile info ,and yes it isn't alex's skype that is shown on his sythe profile (awful of me to overlook that). HOWEVER, he used the account "atlumby" to do the transaction.

This photo was sent to me by another sythe user who sold some gold to the REAL alex2012 earlier tonight, and as you can see, it is the real alex2012's skype, and he uses the exact same runescape account as the "imposter" skype used to take my gold.

I can confirm that "Atlumby" is theresa's Runescape character. What I believe happened is the imposter added Theresa on another Skype, saying he was selling her 45M. He also impostered Theresa to you and said he was selling an account for 45M.

He got you to trade Theresa the 45M.

The unfortunate truth is that Theresa did very little to protect you in this trade. She also profited from you being scammed. It's a really frustrating situation.

 

So Theresa Made a profit, the scammer made a profit, and I'm just fucked? That's a bummer. And Theresa can't simply give me back the scammed gold because she payed the scammer money for it correct?

 

That's the likely scenario. I will ask Theresa to post the full Skype logs with the seller.

 

Also, I've been thinking about it, and if I never replied to Theresa's PM shouldn't that have alerted her? She has been doing business on sythe for far longer than I have, shouldn't she have realized something was awry when I didn't respond to her PM?

Not that I'm saying I wasn't careless, but someone with her experience probably shoulda realized this. It seems as though she wasn't concerned if I was the actual person selling the gold or whether or not it was a scam. Just my thoughts.

Google the Skype name in the future. Drewpeacock25 clearly links to a banned Sythe account.

It's quite common for the user not to reply to the PM. You should have definitely replied to the PM, and if you did it may have avoided the problem.

The reality is that you need to check that the Skype contact matches the user on Sythe. If you just compared the Skype contact information between the imposter and Theresa, you would see that they were a mismatch. These man in the middle scams can be complex and very difficult to pinpoint as a trader. Theresa likely has many chats going at once and it is unreasonable to expect them to cover you.

I think it's a lesson to all Sythe users that this man-in-the-middle scam is becoming increasingly popular. IMO, anyone who is new to trading should be using website Live Chats instead of Skype to trade. If you don't know what you are doing on Sythe, you will usually get hit hard. I'm sorry for your loss but there is no evidence that Theresa colluded with the scammer, and there is not enough proof that Theresa acted negligently either.
