[Help Needed] Black Screen when installing XP [/Help Needed]

    Hi,

Well, i have Windows XP PRO SP2 installed in a dual boot with Open SUSE Linux. My boot loader is GRUB.

I wanted to re-install Windows and delete linux, and whenever i wanted i could run linux from a live cd.

Now, the problem is: i put my cd in the drive, i reboot. My boot sequence in my bios is correctly configured. Up to here all OK. Then a black screen comes up, and it says:

    Press any key to continue...

So i press a key. after a second it says:

Windows is inspecting your hardware configuration. Then i hear the cd moving in the drive for a couple of seconds, then the screen turns all black again and the cd in the drive stops. However, the LED that indicates the hard drive is working is constantly on. The monitor stays black for more than 15 minutes. The onloy way of rebooting is pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del or manually turning the computer off in the button.

    How can i correct this?

    Thanks,

    17th Alley

Make sure there are no windows set up cd's anywhere in any cd drive. Then put in the cd, and when it shows the bios + hardware information, on that first black screen, then press f12, f4, f2, or whatever depending on your company. Most likely f12. Pressing one of those then will take you into a one time boot menu, and then you can boot from the cd drive. It'll appear in a list of readable media drives and you select your cd drive and then it should work fine like that.

Thanks, ill try that. However, i dont think it will work, 'cause it actually starts reading the cd, and then i press the key (like it asks), then it says it is inspecting my hardware configuration. Ill try anyway.

No, i have not taken linux out yet, i was planning on doing that using the windows installer, but i guess i can try it using a windows proggy.

EDIT: Also, i cant fdisk cuase i have like 8 partitions, 5 of them are linux and linux swap. so the fdisk /mbr is out of my mind.

No more answers? damn, im still fucked! Plus, since i have GRUB, im afraid my pc will get messed up if i simply delet the linux partition. Wait, i have an idea. boot with the original system.in, and othe .ini files, if it works and grub does NOT come up, i delete linux. Then i might be able to do it.
