I was honestly expecting this to be way better, but it's "decent" in my opinion. I still think m.a.a.d city is better.

i think the overall message in TPAB is better. GKMC had more bangers and radio songs and probably more replay value. but TPAB is more of like a shortfilm or something with a lot of soul, g-funk and jazzy feel... there are some hits and it even has a tupac feature at the end which is DOPE. i think there is a lot of hype around TPAB right now, while it will be a classic at this point i prefer GKMC... (sorry kendrick stans)

wat up ltdg... you're gonna find this piece tight as hell dude.. potential AOTY

First impressions... Very funky. Can't really comment since I've only listened to it once so far but I'm with you so far Johnk, GKMC is better so far (as empty as a statement that is at the moment lol)

Not a fan of the repeated "I remember you was conflicted; mis-using your influence. Sometimes I did the same..." I know he's building on it each time and there's a theme going on within that itself but in my first listen I found it annoying for some reason.

It's definitely gonna be between Kendrick and Kanye at the grammy's though

I've been running through the album one song [on repeat] at a time, solid so far.

I liked Kendricks stuff like 5yrs ago -> GKMC but I think there's some good on this album. A little upset there's no Schoolboy Q, Ab-soul, or Jay Rock features. I do like when Anna Wise works with him though.

Yeah true. Jay Rock & Kendrick Lamar is one of those collabs that is destined to be super hot fire.

Not feeling it. GKMC is better without a doubt. A lot of artists are experimenting with their music, and most of it doesn't really turn out too well. I like the section 80 kendrick the most.

Yeah I dig GKMC a lot more. GKMC is simply the best album I've ever heard however so comparing to it is sure to leave a lot to be desired.

Still to download it. Only just downloaded Fan of a Fan so will give it a listen to after that. Apparently it's good though, so looking forward to it.

Seeing as 'I' is on the album and everyones general consensus is that its groovy/funky I think I'll definitely like the album.

Have yet to sit down and play through the whole album though.

It's definitely different from his previous album. Like posted above, its funky/groovy/jazzy and has a lot of intros. It's general message is interesting and provoking, but it's radio play and replay potential is very low. After a few listens, I'm starting to really enjoy the album - but its definitely not a "banger"

Personally enjoyed J-cole's album a lot more, and now that Big Sean's album is out...

I have to disagree with you. Really not a good production in my opinion. GKMC told a story and the quality of the songs were top notch. This feels soulless to me, it's just spitting a story at you with a bunch of forgettable songs.

    Still a big Kendrick fan.

message is fire, social commentary is fire, but after a couple listens it's kinda like meh. i actually did go and buy the album legit, copped it for 20. i really feel "alright", "hood politics" and "momma" but yeah. no amazing standouts, but i don't think that was kendricks intention. i think this is a piece for hip hop heads. you can't pick apart invididual songs, it's a story, a short film on tape, an album...

i'm just going to leave this here.. http://genius.com/Genius-an-exegetical-study-of-to-pimp-a-butterfly-lyrics
