Can a Name Sale be MMd?

Just a quick question - is it possible for a name sale be middlemanned if it is NOT sold with the account (i.e. the name is simply being transferred)?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes it can be. I believe this thread belongs in the market section though, would definitely get some better answers there.

Sure, why not. I will note though that if the name in question being transferred is sniped during the transaction, the seller still receives payment from the buyer as the buyer assumes all risks. For example if I was middlemanning a trade for you and another user in which scenario you were purchasing the name; first your payment would be given to me, then user selling the name would "free it up" and as the buyer it would be your job to now obtain the name as quickly as possible. In the event the name is sniped by another individual during this transaction, the seller would still receive the payment and I as the middleman would assure that.

^That actually depends on the seller. Most sellers, including me, take responsibility if the name is sniped mid-transfer. However, if the buyer chooses to transfer the name themselves, they do so at their own risk. But yeah, the second option is typically safer for both the buyer and the seller since:
    1. If the name is sniped, the seller won't be held responsible.
    2. The buyer doesn't have to worry about the seller sniping the name secretly mid-transfer.

Of course. What I posted would be considered the general agreement between a seller, buyer, and middleman unless otherwise specified. I hope in the near future Jagex implements some sort of system for official name trading. Because just as easily as the seller could snipe the name mid-transfer and claim it was a random, the buyer could have a friend snipe the name and claim it was sniped as well by a random (or simply just claim it and say they didn't receive it to try to get a refund). I suppose it would be more safe for the buyer to simply purchase the account and be solely responsible for the transferring of the name.

    Yes.

    1) Middleman collects the gold/payment for the name.
    2) Middleman confirms the seller owns the name by meeting in-game.
    3) Middleman asks buyer/seller to come to an agreement beforehand as to who is responsible if something was to go wrong (e.g. if the name gets sniped):
--a) Buyer of the name takes full responsibility -> If name gets sniped, the seller would receive the payment regardless.
--b) Seller of the name takes full responsibility -> If name gets sniped, the buyer would get a refund of the cash.
--c) Buyer & seller split responsibility -> If the name gets sniped, the buyer & seller receive half of what the name was being sold for each.
    4) Buyer/Seller/Middleman meet up at a secure location in-game. Buyer comes on the account he is putting the name on. Seller comes on the account that has the name on it.
    5) Once everyone is ready, seller frees up the name, the buyer grabs the name. Seller gets paid if the transfer is successful, or if the name was sniped/not grabbed by the buyer, you would give the cash as you agreed to prior (a, b or c).

This is the method I use to middleman names and it's had a 100% success rate.

    Well, I've got another question:

Once the name seller changes the name they're selling, how long will it take until the name is ready to be transfered onto the new account?

If it's a runescape name, when you use bonds to change your name twice in a short time period, the name instantly becomes available after the second name change.
