honestly, most of the stuff you learn from highschool you'll barley use but once you get to college you get the understand that the worlds a big place and you're more self aware of your surroundings

Wise man. To add, life would be so much easier for any student unaware of the confrontations theyll face as an adult if schools taught what they would have to face. I know alot of people who have no clue how to set up things like car insurance without there parents.

In high school you're just supposed to learn structure.

It's supposed to get you used to the early morning rises...working through the day and then going home and having enough discipline to do take home work (but barely any, high school is really easy in hindsight).

In college/university, if you are lucky, you learn how to be self reliant. You don't rely so much on the structure you're used to in high school, but instead you work on researching things yourself, governing your own time (especially in later years).

Again this description really varies from person to person, especially if you're going to community college, it's a lot more like high school than if you're going to an ivy league school for example (both are excellent and prepare you for different roles in society, both necessary).

That's how my experience has been over the years.

It's not really to remember and know every single things. It is to make people well rounded, or provide a facet for interests. You won't know you're good at something and bad at another unless you take risks in all of them, of course, effort is key and humans improve from mistakes.

To all the people saying science and maths are useless to learn in highschool and what not it's simply because if you want to pursue a career in anything with higher level learning i.e engineering, computer science ect that math pays off. Also why would they teach you taxes they're really not that hard to figure out on your own. Most of the stuff they don't teach you is simple compared to what they do.

Me personally I find it 50/50. I mean, I'm an apprentice builder, and I find some of what I've learnt to be useful, especially measurements etc. But half of what I was learnt, I've already been taught whilst doing my apprenticeship.

But I also do understand how most people feel like what they learn't doing school was unnecessary.

I used to think school taught me practically nothing in comparison to the real world, and in some way it is true, what I actually found valuable once I finished school and college is that school just set the foundation for you so you knew HOW to learn in the future. It's really to set a strong foundation for the real world.

Schools are pretty much exam factories these days. As soon as you create league tables and funding dependant on grade ratios your not going to get anything else.

I feel as if that's untrue. School is supposed to build good habits for students, i.e. working hard, work/life balance, studying schedules so that when they get to college/universities, they know what to do. As well, this guides them when they are in the real world and have a 9-5 job - the early rise and work ethic will serve them well in this time.

The only important subjects are English, Math, and Science. Everyone needs to know how to read a write well. Algebra is necessary for your personal finances. Jobs in business, programing, and engineering all require math. Science is needed for research, and in the medical field.

Classes like foreign language, and history should be optional. I took Spanish for 6 years and I can barely understand anything. History is nice to know, but not applicable to many careers. You can answer any history question in 2 seconds online.

The only thing we go to college for is to get the piece of paper at the end, regardless of how much we actually know. School is great for some people that can absorb knowledge like a sponge, while others float through forgetting what they learn after or while they read it.

At my college, the online classes especially are terrible. My java class is literally, read the book do the homework do the test, rinse and repeat all without any help or instruction from the instructor.

When school is focused on getting a good grade on a test rather than being graded on the actual wisdom that you have and will continue to retain for life is a fucked up policy.

That's not true, nearly all the classes I took, still have to take, in college are relevant. If you're a humanity major maybe, and if your just learning facts. People don't forget concepts, but facts can be forgotten.

Like your not going to forget what you learn in java, maybe you'll have to look up a couple things, but doing the HW is how you learn. If you can't answer a question on a test then what did you really retain. There's a bunch of people who know java on sythe, if you post a question someone will answer quickly.

You're going to use complicated math if you pursue a field that requires it.

Obviously hard skills and work experience are extremely useful but that doesn't mean school is not useful as well. I think most college students will confirm (as I can) that the stuff they're learning is going to be relevant to their careers.

problem is it caters to the lowest common denominator. It is designed to set the mouth breathers straight. It gives the unintuitive dolts a platform to build connections. It sets good habits for the drones to prepare for higher learning. IT DOES NOT CATER TOWARDS SCHOLARS/WRITERS, TRUE INTELLECTUALS. the obvious reason is the people that are in control. the president chairman. history teacher.they aren't intellectuals. they aren't in love with knowledge. they are normies.
