If you could go back in time, and never take that first hit of weed that your friends peer pressured you into, would you? (hypothetically)

How has weed changed your life, whether bad or good? Should I smoke weed for the first time at 17 years old this spring break or should I stay off of it as I fear addiction and lack of money to cope with it?

I've been offered weed countless of times since I was 14 but I always denied to take a hit "just one hit bro come on don't be a pussy" they say, why should or shouldn't I now?

Well for starters, doing something because of peer pressure is stupid. I don't care what it is, if you're doing something, do it because you want to, not because you feel some obligation/pressure/whatever. If you don't "hypothetically" develop a back bone to say no to something, you're going to do a lot of things you regret.

Now for the "changing life" portion, weed doesn't change your life. If you smoke, you'll likely chill out, talk to some friends, and just relax. It's not some life-changing experience (perhaps you may have conversations, or you'll have some epiphany that'll be life changing, but that's unlikely.) It's just weed.

You should smoke if you want to smoke, that's what it comes down to. 17 isn't overly young, but not an age you'd want to be a chronic smoker. Weed in younger people (like 13-15) effects the brain developmentally.

Weed has a 9% dependency rate and you literally cannot be addicted to it (due to lack of withdrawal affects.) You have a much higher chance of forming an alcohol or tobacco-related dependency. If you can't afford it, don't buy it and don't smoke it. Don't buy/do things you can't afford, this goes for everything.

It doesn't matter why you should or shouldn't. If you say no, you don't need to justify it. If you want to, you also don't need to justify it. It comes down to do you want to smoke it and try it out. How should you arrive at that decision? Think about it, perhaps do some research on weed and it's effects and so forth.

Don't regret it because I don't need it. I'm sure there are people who's lives it ruined and others who say it enriches their lives.

My first time smoking I wasn't peer pressured into it, me and 3 other friends decided to try it together and personally I don't enjoy that much so I have smoked ~10 times since then. I don't think there is any negatives to trying it but don't get pressured into it

You have to feel good while smoking. I never regretted starting smoking about 2 years ago, the only "problem" is, that I'm spending $250+ a month... :D

Living in the Netherlands, it is 100% legal here.
Does not mean i smoke my ass off, just once a week or 2 weeks a few joints only when i am a bit stressed from work or other personal problems.

i am not a person who gets addicted that easy, so i can smoke everyday and then quit forever if i want :)

I never did weed and never will. It first off goes against my religion and I wouldn't want to do something that can harm my life.

The "can I afford it" argument cuts off there. I can afford it oh yeah, but will I want to keep urging to smoke some weed? I have drank alcohol before and let me tell you, even though I didn't pay for it - I drank like crazy for 3 weeks every time me and this girl hooked up, I wouldn't be able to do anything with the girl without alcohol - everything was much more fun and I was easily more social

I won't suggest you try it or not, but it's best to be informed.

First, it's not a dangerous substance. You won't ever become addicted like you see someone get addicted to alcohol, hard drugs, or even cigarettes. A lot of people make it a habit though without noticing it. If you smoke every day it can be slightly unhealthy of course. As far as money, even someone who smokes every day will spend no more than ~100/month. Which I guess is a lot for 17 but not like the people you see in the media spending every last dime on drugs.

Some of the negative effects only come if you smoke ~4+ times a week. Your head can feel cloudy, it can make you feel more content with being depressed or not doing anything.

If you decide to try it, even if you smoke semi-frequently, your life won't change at all. If you like it enough to use it frequently be just be aware of yourself. If you decide to keep turning it down there's also nothing wrong with that. It can be a pretty cool social thing but don't let your friends push you into something you're not into.
