    2nd Monitor Help

Okay so atm my current monitor is an ASUS VG248QE 24" 144hz 1ms gaming monitor, but im looking for a 2nd one.

Since this one is really expensive, and I will only be using my 2nd one for Skype/streams, etc, I cant buy a 2nd monitor the same as this one.

Would it be weird having 2 different monitors? Should I keep them both the same size?

    Thanks :p

It would look nice if both monitors were identical but it wont look weird either if you manage to get similar monitors but make sure to get one the same size cause otherwise it will definitely look weird.

Yeah that's what I thought tbh. However this monitor was far too expensive to buy a 2nd one, so that isn't an option :(

I think there may be an issue with Windows being dumb about refresh rates but I don't think that would effect games. Honestly if you just put it off to one side any monitor would not be all that weird unless it was significantly larger.

This is what my setup looks like with a BenQ 27" and an LG 21.5" (I think? It's older so can't remember).

It's not too weird to look at if the resolutions are kept the same; I've found it to be nicer if the centres of the screens are closer together though, which is why I've elevated the smaller monitor.

Just check eBay for another cheap 24" though. They aren't expensive. Hell, I even found this one for like AU$125 which would be perfect for what you want it for:

Check your graphics card to see what other ports it has available. Usually they have a combination of DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI in some way or another. I'm currently using HDMI for my main and DVI for my secondary - digital signals are much better quality.

Apart from the cable types, yeah, you just plug them in and turn them on. You'll need to tell Windows what to do with it (by default I think it might duplicate your screen), which can be done by going to the part of Control Panel where you set your screen resolution and setting the second monitor to "extend".

Current I'm using DVI for my main as HDMI doesn't support 144hz, so would it be okay if I plugged in my side-monitor with my un-used HDMI cable?

    Thanks for the help.

Should be; Windows decides which monitor is your primary and you can set it in the same place you set your screen resolution.

As long as the resolution is the same it's really no big deal.
I've been using 3 screens for a while now, 2 identical ones and 1 smaller one, and I really don't notice the difference any more.

I don't think its weird with a different 2nd monitor, just use whatever you can your hands on for a good price :D

Can recommend the same size though, doesn't need to be the exact same model :D
