Yeah, good ole' days... Nowadays server owners don't realize there is DMCA-free zones, and you can legally host the gameserver in one country, a download link in another, and then website in the U.S. and pretty much be DMCA proof as the U.S. website would be the one taking donations, and only linking over to the client download. The client download would fall under the Fair Use section of the DMCA, as it's not being used for profit directly(technically speaking), and the game server is irrelevant because the copyrighted material is all in the client.

So an employee of the company broke a copyright his own company owned? Seems legit. More like they needed an excuse to close a failed project that made them some $.

To be honest, its good that all this hype and circus around this game has finally ended, I was interested by it but thank god I didn't donate.

 

Looks like they got the money kept it open for a while and then thought it's time. Unless they didn't get enough donations or have just generally outgrown the game etc.

Surprised the community wasn't outraged as anybody who were to play it would be the crazy level of RS [PK scene, I am part of it ]

 

2006scape was a complete scam. mod vault has done this before with another project, continuously push the release date back to allow more time for hype and thus, donations. it's apparently taken over a year to create the game when people i've talked to say it could easily have only taken 2 months tops with all the source code available on mopar.

he ran a very simple lightweight website, and the server was almost never online to begin with. thank god i never donated. this faggot is a complete scammer.

 

This definitely seems like the case, he would come up with the most ridiculous reasons as to why it was pushed back. I wouldn't be surprised if nobody even hacked the site..just that he came up with that as a reason to describe its lack of release.

What a tool if that's the case.

 

Jagex made them prepare everything first then attack them. That's playing dirty...

The funny part is that it's actually back up now.. It already has over 150+ players www.2006scape.net
