Explanation Please??

Hello.

Could Someone Please Be So Kind As To Explain How A HighScore Parser Works?
Well Its Not Really How It Works But What All The Functions And That Are In It.
I Know Basicly How It Works. It Gets A Webpage And Coverts It To A String. It Then Searches For Specific Phrases Or Symbols Within That String. It Then Displays Values In Text Boxes Or What Ever You Want It To. I Already Know What IndexOf() Does. Im Having A Little Trouble With The Rest Though.
