I want to start gold-farming but I don't know if there's a possibility of you losing money. I'd be doing it to sell the gp. If you get banned, can you ever make more accounts on your ip? If its an ip ban is it possible to get around that? (legally)

I've had lots of accounts banned, especially in recent times and have never had an IP ban. Only singular account bans. My best guess says that evading an IP ban is against Jagex's rules. Not sure about legal ramifications though.

All your accounts are membership accounts correct? Do they make more money than the membership? How much RAM would I need if I were to build a computer just for gold farming?

Most of my accounts have membership. I buy membership with bonds and it's relatively easy to bot that gold back with membership. I'm not sure how much RAM you'd need to run VPNs or VPSs but I run 16gb RAM, i7 processor and can run up to 8 scripts at the same time on most clients. Some clients use more memory than others, some scripts can as well.

How often do you get banned? Are the bots detected quickly? I wouldn't be doing too many at once.

Bans are pretty prevalent. Worst that you lose is really the bond you put on the account and anything you've farmed on it if you're banned.

To be honest bans are fairly common, especially on newer accounts botting in certain areas. With that said, one of my newer accounts has botted from 1-93 (so far) rc at roughly 12 hours a day. 91-93 has been nats. 93-99 will be nats. Take all the usual safety precautions when botting and you should somewhat reduce your chances of being banned. Don't get me wrong though, your account WILL be banned eventually if you bot. It's a matter of how much you can prolong their life.

Makes sense. Do you bounce the money around mules or sell quickly or what?

It's pretty hard to set up and create a successful bot farm. First you'd want to find a method that you can bot and that isn't too known. You'll need to invest a fair bit first before profiting, but if you are successful the profit can be massive.

You can lose a lot of money if you invest a lot into VPN's and a big bot farm and get banned quickly.

So does everybody use their own scripts AND methods or do people just run the same scripts at different places and worlds.

Bit of both, to my knowledge the people with their own scripts and method seem to succeed more, for obvious reasons.

It's a lot of trial and error. Make sure you're well-informed BEFORE starting to avoid making n00b mistakes.

Is there a negative to goldfarming?

Exactly! That's why I'm still in the "read a bunch before goldfarming" stage :)
Best advice I can give you - do your homework before doing anything else.
Get to know the game a bit better. Also, think about writing your own scripts.

    Good luck!

Is there a negative to goldfarming?

Well if you are going to use a popular client
    (rsbot,epicbot,tribot) prepare to get banned.

You can use simba but the amount of scripts is way smaller and some of them even need fixing. Less user friendly but way less bans too.
