Starting in FIFA 15 Ultimate Team

Starting in FIFA 15 Ultimate Team is not easy. I'm not talking about the first packs and games. I'm talking about getting enough coins to survive and making it as fast as possible to DIV 1. This year is harder than ever, as the gameplay has substantially changed. The first thing I can tell you is: LEARN TO PLAY FIRST. Leave Ultimate Team for when you actually know how to play. Don't waste your players contracts unless you are sure you'll be able to Win Titles. The coins that you win from titles are very important, unless you are buying FIFA POINTS like a crazy boy, you surely need some extra coins like that. So don't waste your contracts by losing chances of winning DIV 10, DIV 9, DIV 8, DIV 7, DIV 6, DIV 5 titles. The smarter players know that there's a HUGE difference between reaching DIV 3 in 7 seasons than in 13 seasons. You save a LOT of coins in contracts and what not. Play smart, take your time, learn the game, and then play Ultimate Team.

2. This Year's GamePlay

Slower, more dependable on passing. Over-the-top through balls and crosses are no longer OP. Which means that now, there has to be a NEW OP play. Yes, ground-through balls. Strikers get through the defensive line easier and ground Y passes, if well done, are deadly. For what ever reason the pitch feels larger and there's more space. This is though, NOT A GLITCH. This is the new game. Learn it! Use it in your favor. This year, it's no longer the "pace" the "strength" that make the difference, is the PATIENCE.

Building the play is more important than ever before and having a strong striker that can HOLD THE BALL is crucial. Pace is good and useful, as well as headers... But NOT OP. Know this, learn this. Work "A" balls in the midfield and pass fast around defenders, learn the tiki-taka style and the "horziontal-vertical" playing style. (which we'll discuss later.) This year gameplay requires a skilled defence and a direct BUT SMART attack.

3. Playing Style

So I've already played over 100 games. I've tried pace, strenght, passing, counter-attack, 3 on the back, etc. All that you can think of, I've tried. What I found best? Passing. Cluster the midfield with players and pass around as much as you can. Be aggresive though... Use the "horizontal-vertical" style. What is this? When you pass 1 horizontal pass then 1 vertical pass, in a rule of thumbs. Hoziontal then vertical, then horzinontal and then vertical, until you reach 3/4 of the field. Then get creative.

Simple as that. Build the play. Fast paced attacks are easy to stop, if when facing a decent defender. Know the difference! A dumb defender (opponent) can be beaten by a fast direct attack with fake-shots and what not. A smarter defender (opponent) needs to be beaten by build up plays with a lot of passes. Like in real life. Remember my well known advice: KNOW YOUR OPPONENT, THEN PICK YOU STYLE OF PLAY.

4. Formation & Leagues

So I tried everything. Here is my overall review:

- 3 IN THE BACK -
3-5-2 Best of them. As you cluster the midfield with is CRUCIAL in this game. Still though, 3 in the back is way to open for counter-attacks and like in FIFA 14, 3 in the back means that either you win or you lose. There is no middle ground. Rarely is it a close game.

- 4 IN THE BACK -
4-4-2 Classic. Good. Trusted formation to use when starting. Balanced. No need to learn any specific style, just put on and go.
4-2-3-1 Personal Favorite. Balanced defence. Strong midfield with 5 players (CRUCIAL.) Only down-side, you need a strong ST.
4-1-2-1-2 Fan Favoite. Good for a strong attack and a fair defence. I personally think it's too fast-paced. I play more slow and build the play, while this formation is for people who like to counter-attack. Though it can easily be used in different ways.

So I tried the most common. Here is my overall review:

BPL /EPL

The best league. Prices might be a bit over the top, but the less mainstream players that are still really good are affordable. This league is great for any formation, probably with the exception of 3 in the back, as many CB's like to attack in this league. 4 in the back with this formation can give you MANY OPTIONS.

Spanish

Great for passing. Downfall that has limited players that you can choose from without havingto pay waaay to much for them. Is pretty much the BPL over-priced brother with less players to choose from.

Italian

Great for a good fun. Not for competition. It's great for passing and having a good time, Totti is a beast. But GOD can you get frustreded with the lack of "balls" in this league. Offensivly the lights of Ibarbo and Muriel, Llorente, etc. are undenaible. But on the defence, for what ever reason few defenders really keep to the expectations.

French

Limited. As usual. Over-priced and with few options.

5. Trading & Coins

Sell EVERYTHING you have. Build a 15k team. Play like that until you reach DIV 3. Then see if you can survive with that team, if not, buy a couple of players where you need them most. DON'T BUY PLAYERS LIKE Ramsey for 13k and stuff like that. Sve the coins. PLAY WITH THE CHEAPEST TEAM YOU CAN WIN WITH. Buy "Boost Coins" from the catalogue. Win titles. Don't waste coins in anything else than contracts and fitness. Buy SUBS, eventually you can switch to another 15k fitness squad. Save coins. Save coins. Wait until the first market crash. THEN with the coins you saved, build the team you can afford. Play with it. Wait for the market to go back up. Sell everything. Buy 15k team. Repeat.

If you are like me, and you enjoy playing even if it's not an expensive team. This method will safely build you up to a good amount of coins. Around 300k by December. Then if you use market crashes properly and patiently. You'll make at least 500k. YES IT'S NOT FAST. IT'S NOT ENTERTAINING. But if you want to make coins, safely and while you play. This is the beast way. Last year, just in Match Profit I had over 1 Million Coins. Don't buy packs. (EA MIGHT BAN ME FOR SAYING THAT LOL) At least, don't buy packs with coins. Save coins. Match Profit is underrated. Specially with "boost coins."



What is the key then? The key to succeeding. Understanding! Understanding Ultimate Team is a buisness. EA wants players to invest real money in the game, so they make the game accordingly. I'm not saying there's a conspiracy. I'm not saying handicap is a BIG factor. All I say is, when I tried buying a 84 OVERALL team and playing (at the same night, connection and mood) as when I played with my 78 OVERALL squad. Same formation, same "type"of players, same league. The game felt slower, my players felt dumber and I played worst, 2 out of 3 games with the more expensive and higher rated team. The game in some way is "easier" when you have a "worst" team.

I'm not saying the key is to fill your bench with bronze. NO! Just build a nice squad for a small amount of coins. Don't exceed the 80 overall. Keep subs in the same "overall" as your initial 11. Buy players like the ones in my squad, and the same for subs. No need to use dirty cheats. If you understand this game is also a business, you'll see the reality behind it.


THE KEY TO ULTIMATE TEAM:

1. Understand what is your purpose. A) WINNING or B) MAKING BIG EXPENSIVE TEAMS.
2. Not both. It's really hard to make big expensive teams and not having EA make it hard for you to win with them.
3. If you choose like me, winning, you'll understand that there's some magic in playing with cheaper squads.
4. Learn to play with it, become familiar, and change the way you played Ultimate Team.
5. No longer will Ultimate Team be about constantly changing squads, but improving the one you have.

* If you only want to make big squads and that is what makes the MAGIC for you. Do it, it's ok. Just don't expect to win as much as people who keep a smaller team and don't change constantly.

7. Conclusion

There's 2 ways of playing ULTIMATE TEAM:

1. TRADER

2. PLAYER


The trader will trade and make teams, that is his happiness. Winning games while trading is almost twice as difficult as while not trading. Understand and accept that reality.

The player will leave away the trading. The player will ENJOY the team he builds and NOT change in less than 6 or 7 seasons. He will forget about that voice in our heads telling us to make a better team, and actually ENJOY the team he has. He will focus on playing good, using EA's magical "handicap" to his favor. NOT BY CHEATING WITH BRONCE ON BENCH, but by making a smaller squad with 78/79 rated players he likes, and playing fair and square.

Choose your side, then enjoy ultimate team. During FIFA 14 I tried being both and failed badly. This year I choose Player, and so I'm happy.
