Sleep paralysis is the state between wakefulness and sleep. During that time you suffer from muscle weakness, which temporarily disables you from moving. Your speech is also unusable during that time, although I remember being able to make noises of struggle. They say you experience this a few times in your lifetime, and as you do, you have hallucinations of a spiritual being.

Has anyone else gone through this? If so, what is your experience. I'm curious.

I get it a few times a month.
Doesn't last long for me, matter of 10 seconds but it's a horrible experience.

I got this twice in my life, I thought I was being possessed and I couldn't move anything beside my eyeballs and not even lift up my hand. Never happened to me after though and it was after I watched "the conjuring" so yea :p. the other time was random because my heater was making wierd noises. Now Im not scared but tis not a good feeling.

Had this happen to me only once, and it was years ago at a friend's house. I slept on a couch that night and was pretty uncomfortable. I had auditory hallucinations and couldn't move for a few minutes, my eyes were open but I don't recall seeing any visuals in the room.

It didn't bother me that much, thought it was kind of cool. It's like dreaming in a mentally aware state.

It use to happen to me a lot as a kid. Fortunately I didn't see any weird figures or beings, but it was still scary not being able to wake up. I remember trying to scream out loud to wake up and not being able to.

A cool thing about sleep paralysis is that I heard you can turn it into a lucid dream.

Happens to me at least twice a month. After a while you just get used to it and let it happen.

If it happens to you again try to wiggle your toes to get out of it quickly.

Also, it tends to last anywhere from 1-5 minutes for me.

Hasn't happened to me, but from what some others have said, sleeping on your side, for example on your right side, instead of sleeping on your back has helped them. Also, try getting the nerves more relaxed, like on your back near the spinal cord, stretch and/or clean your neck/back with water before sleeping or something, its different, but I heard that it helps others.

I've experienced it since I was very little.

Generally in my dream I'm walking down a dark hallway in my house, and I'll see a dark shadow form and I can't see the face but I know its an old lady. I'll try to scream or run but I can't move. Its called the old hag dream for a reason :/

I've had similar dreams where I "wake up" in my room just to find her there and I'll scream and not be able to move.

Its terrifying and very real feeling. You're between being asleep and awake so you can often feel, smell, touch ._.

I have some seriously disturbing dreams and semi-lucid dreams hence my username.

A few times, I've been awake and wasn't able to move voluntarily or open my eyes but then I would twitch and shake. The first time it happened was a few days after my first time smoking (the same twitching and shaking happened, but it was an anxiety attack when I was high). Doesn't sound like the same thing, but that's my experience to something similar I guess. It's happened a few times since though. Not sure exactly what it is, but it's not too much of a hassle anyway.

That's weird, I can't seem to find anyone who was interrupted during this event. Say if another person were to move you while you are in this state, would that have a negative effect, disrupt the condition, or keep things neutral?

All 3 times this happened to me, I felt an ominous aura, and saw a shadow. The shadow wasn't created by any other object, it was distinct. I was scared out of my mind.

I have had it about 3 or 4 times so far. Best one I remember I thought I was possessed for a good 2minutes I tried to speak/move and scream out loud but couldn't then I gave up and had a rest and it went normal.

There is a way to do this purposely. Look into astral projection. it is somewhat similar to what your describing but you can stay in control

I've gone through this, not fun.

During my experience I couldn't move anything hence "paralysis", but I did manage to focus hard enough to limp my arm
over to where my controller was on my bed. The instant I had the controller and managed to turn on my television my body
    instantly became fully awake again.

The cause of sleep paralysis is the fact that your mind wakes up but your body is still in a sleeping state.

I've gone through sleep paralysis many, many times and I love it. Every time I feel like I'm being pushed down and its as if I'm tied down to wherever I am sleeping at the time. I also hear a loud whistling wind type of sound, but nobody around me has ever heard it.

Same here. OP, how do you sleep btw? on your back? because i heard some rumors that it comes more easily to people who sleep on their back, and i never sleep like that & never had sleep paralysis

Is it like those dreams where you fell off a from a high elevated position and u feel 'frozed' throughout your whole body and you're half awake/half unconscious.
