There are lots of people who go to work in the morning, but can't sleep at night. Insomnia can lead to an irregular sleeping pattern. Here are the reasons for my diagnosis.

    1. He can't fall asleep or stay up as he desires.
    2. Insomnia can lead to depression.
    3. The disorder is short term.
    4. Stress is a cause factor.

You're probably right. Maybe it's him playing games during the night that led to his pattern of sleep, although the two aren't far off.

Well Ghast your diagnosis could be accurate I have been through a lot of stress, and I have self diagnosed myself with depression and so has the doctor but I refuse to take anti depressants as I feel this is a mental issue I can overcome myself without government drugs numbing my mind.

There's nothing wrong with being a night time person - I prefer the dark when it's quiet. But the problem is letting it interfere with your progress in life.

It's normal to not know what you want to do - I've changed my studies uh.. 3-ish times now as I change my mind. My advice would be just do something. Just try something, and do it, and learn from it - if you end up doing it forever, awesome! If not, then you'll know why you didn't like it and it'll help you choose something else.

You could always work nights and sleep during the day if you just prefer that kind of lifestyle, as long as it isn't secluded loneliness you'll be fine.

If you think you have clinical depression, then it wont fix itself. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, simply trying to be happy doesn't correct that. Drugs correct the imbalance - they aren't evil pills that make you in to some kind of zombie - they work and they're prescribed for a reason.

Well this is true Roary, the doctor handed me the anti depressants within 5 minutes of speaking to me about symptoms. I took them and have been considering starting the treatment but I am extremely reluctant, in the mean time I will be doing psychotherapy, lol.... this sounds worse than it is imo. If I was to get a proper thorough test to confirm that chemical imbalance then I will have to treat it, but I felt my doctor handed me the drugs to easily without proper examination, I knew this would be the case before I went aswell.

Go to a specialist mental health consultant - you can get a referral from your doctor if you feel you're just being palmed off.

Only way is to one, see if you have any sleep problems, go to a doctor. Second, you have to stay up a couple times and be tired enough that you KO at around 10pm-12am. Keep that up, use some coffee, reward yourself in the mornings, then come thank me, when it most likely works.

Thanks for all the intelligent and helpful replies, I have definitely gained a lot from here, more than I have speaking to people IRL about this issue.
