I'm against the whole GE thing, I've never had issues buying/selling things on 07 as it is, it's part of the experience selling your items/buying them with a bit of a struggle.. not some automated system that does it for you :/

I understand people enjoy the struggle but...why?

Why would you want something to be a struggle when it could free up more time for you to enjoy the actual game?

I understand people saying items will drop in value and skilling will become pointless, but when people argue that they enjoy the struggle over not struggling at all, I just don't get it. :p

Currently you can make loads of money by flipping items. With the GE people will be able to find the lowest offers instead of buying from a merchant that ask more than average Joe.

Everyone who thinks you can make money by outbuying all items to increase the price and then sell will fail.

    What happens is:
    - Leaders in a clan start buying whips (example).
    - When they bought a shitload, they tell their "pawns" that paid for ranks to start buying whips.
    - Whip prices rise 200k or something.
    - People notice price changes and go kill demons for whips to sell them for a little higher than normal.
    - Leaders have already began dumping their whips.
    - The pawns have infested a lot of cash for whips that are already dropping in price again.

Short story: Pawns buy expensive stuff that was bought for the normal prices by their leaders.

They were extremely explicit that the game would only receive technical updates at the level of votes they received. Since then, they have added a half dozen mockeries of EoC and Pre-EoC content. -Not that these updates weren't "good" updates, but that the reason behind the 07 game is to prevent that and preserve the game's balance.

How did GE fuck up runescape.

As far as I'm concerned, the only two major updates that fucked runescape where Squeels & Eoc.

Also, the majority of the players wanted pre-eoc version of the game not specifically 07. But when they where offered 07 they gobbled it up simply because it was "do-able".

Bringing the GE back diminishes the value of an iron man account. Now, all the items that regular accounts would often have to collect manually too, (due to a low supply), will be instantly accessible. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind 07 progressing as it did in 2007. I just fear the slippery slope of Jagex ruining a good game again. At this rate, graphics will update, combat will change, and god forbid they introduce the squeal. If Jagex slows it down and savors the 2007-2011 years, then this game could be enjoyable for years to come. I just fear 07 turning into a modified EOC.

    You know...

You're completely right. The addition of the G.E. is a step further as well as a pivotal point, like in RS2, towards a change that lead down the path to RS2. I understand that purchasing items is time consuming and "wastes" skilling time or whatever you could be doing with your time on RS, however that's part of the grind that OS is. If you're not willing to grind it out, then you may as well leave to an easier version such as RS3. Just imagine if RS3 & OSRS shut down leaving us with RSC!? Kids would be going insane that they couldn't get the items and quantity of those items they're desperately in need of! But Jagex is only doing as the players are voicing - change towards the old ways. The G.E. is inevitable, so I'd like to see it change from Varrock to Falador simply because if we're going to have an OS G.E. it may as well be in the original trading location. This is just my preference but really.. let's keep some of the grind in this game "thousands of people" desired.

This will be the most detrimental effect, and how the "let's make the game easier with updates" mindset will slowly but surely terraform the game into an EoC minicry, where (just like in EoC today) the average total level is 2.2k and 15k people are completely maxed.

I simply do not understand how people can't comprehend how that will devalue the game. Runescape is about training skills, exploring the world, doing quests, fighting/bossing, etc. Not about accumulating wealth as fast as possible...

When everyone has maxed every skill, done every quest, and can easily obtain wealth to buy any item - who will want to play the game?

What point is there in training any skill when 15k people already have the skill that you are training (and every other skill) level 99? You are only working for a fraction of what 15,000 people already have. What is the point of doing a quest when everyone else has already done all of the quests because monsters are easy to fight and they can purchase all items needed to complete any quest instantly from the GE?

GE -> Makes things easier -> devalues accomplishment

    lol...

They poll all updates so I don't see how squeal would be brought to osrs.

It's not a matter of enjoyment more than it is understanding the level of difficulty that comes with buying/selling, and the effect it has on the market. When they say they enjoy the current method of trade, they mean they enjoy the system. Being able to determine who your item goes to and what price ultimately puts you in control, and there are some players who get a kick out of that.

This is exactly why I voted against the release of the GE: to prevent potential abuse. If we view botting as an essential asset to resource production and maintaining even/low prices, we can view the GE as the exact opposite.

A system which involves trading face-to-face in-game and which LISTS available buying and selling offers prevent abuse and is much more fair for legitimate players.

However it is much less convenient for players as well. Having to stand around waiting for people to PM you from zybez or trading post, not being able to go to sleep and wake up to sold items through the GE.

Whatever it is, the GE looks like its going to pass. We need to accept it.

A simple alternative to the GE is just allow you to send trade requests through the trading post, and allow the player to choose which seller offer they want to buy from. At least then it would be harder to manipulate prices.
