Scammed by someone you trust..GG Santa Hat

I'm sure many users on this site have been scammed by deceptive individuals. But it certainly does hurt more when it's someone you know and trust.

How much was my friendship worth? A red santa hat...Worth 115m EOC

I'm not going to deny I haven't been scammed for a lot of money over my rs career but I've never been scammed like this....

I had a friend , who I met a few years back, I was incredibly nooby and he had only been playing a couple of years. We chatted and soon became friends, he would help me out , give advice...etc. We kept in touch, I spoke and helped him through the time he had a tumor ( he legitimately did) had him on fb, his family spoke about it. He trust traded me his phat, etc...

So today, he asked to borrow my Santa Hat for a couple of days and he would give me 10m . I said sure, traded him, went off to do some things. He pm'd me and when I went to pm him back , I noticed I couldn't. Then, thinking it was an obvious mistake I went to talk to him on fb or Skype...I found he had deleted me on both...So he took my Santa, I'm not even mad...Just Disappointed my friendship meant so little.

I've been scammed for 3a and a spectral.. was about 300m at the time. The price some people put on friendship..

Trying to think of a similar scenario...
Ahh here's one.
I had a friend on Runescape when I used to be all nooby and about woodcutting all day (not even botting just woodcutting mages constantly). Met this friend and she had the same 'passion' for woodcutting that I did so we met practically daily to woodcut or just hang out and we added each other on myspace (before we used facebook) then a year later we both got facebook so we added eachother there too.

Anyway, one day she came on her account and asked if she could borrow some money so I said sure how much? she asked for I think...7M? (which was so fucking much to me back then because I was young and didn't know anything about real world trading 2005-era). Anyway, I gave it to her then she logged off and when she logged back in a day later she insisted it was her ex-boyfriend or something that had access to her account when they were dating but she forgot to change her password.

We didn't delete eachother but we barely talked after that because I had a feeling she was just jerking me around and it hurt.

 

Two years about some mates of mine all banded together and lured me for my purple phat. I hadn't known them long, but for the time I did I felt as if we had really connected. Apparently it was all just a front to bait me though. I was upset about losing the hat, but at the end of the day I felt more bad about being let on like that.

 

That's terrible...you hear about all these lures for huge items like phats but you never hear the behind-the-scenes stories associated with them. :/

This isn't the first time ,I've seen or heard this... It's pure betrayal...

Happened to someone I know, he had known this people a couple of months and they lured him for like 1.4b...It was such a sad site to see and hear about.

On a more annoying side, I got hacked haha.... There went 500m EOC as well... I had a shit day...

 

Crazy he would do that for like 30 bucks. I've been scammed by an IRL friend after he moved away, and again like you, was more upset and confused at why he would do that over actually losing items.

 

Exactly 30 bucks...That's the same as stealing a Xbox game off me or something pathetic...

This has happened to me before in a different scenario, known a guy for 6 years, went to my school for the first couple years of know him. Asked to borrow 30m and 8m for a bond, I was like sure. Asked for the money a few days later as he said he would pay around this time, completely ignored me, then deleted me...For like 15 bucks...How pathetic...

 

Got scammed for a green right when free trade came back. Had a friend who I had played rs with for years, talked on skype till 4am talking about anything and just random shit for years. Knew my password and I knew his. We both became pretty rich in game when free trade was removed by becoming high ranks in different merchanting fc's.

Made my way to 3b+ and soon after lost approx 900m due to investing in ancient staffs right before they crashed. Decided to quit rs for a while and bought a green phat to sit in my bank for when I return. When free trade came back I had no idea and was working in a remote area.

One day I log on to rs and see that the green is gone and that he's deleted me from friends list/skype/facebook.

The phat was easy to make back buy just buying gp when free trade came back but it was the betrayal that got to me the most.

 

Worst part is they put a video up on Youtube of them carrying out the lure. As if they didn't already do enough damage they had to publicly ridicule me like that as well.

 

You should email Jagex to have it taken down.

 

Wow sorry to hear about this that is indeed very sad. $40 or so over a long term friendship i dont know what he must of been thinking to scam that...

 

They were banned. Not because they lured, but because in the video they admitted to RWTing the hat for a ~$100 split per person involved. Luring isn't technically against the rules (assuming you don't bug abuse). It's in a grey area. But RWTing is certainly against the rules, and because of their big mouths they got their arses handed to them.

 

Damn, that's a shame. Over a relatively small amount of money? :/

 

I can see why luring isn't against the rules. It's technically alright to do because the other person consents every step of the way.
