    Computer has random crashes

    Hey,

For the past few months I've had an issue where my computer randomly freezes up. Mouse/keyboard dont react to anything and the screen completely freezes, as it someone just switched in my working screen for a screenshot.

I have to press the power button to turn it off, and when I boot it up again I get the normal "windows wasn't properly shut down" stuff.

http://screencast.com/t/dZasWU8Cf screenshot of my pc specs in PC overview. I've had this one for a while now.

I'd love to know what is casuing it, as it seems to occur randomly whatever I'm doing. It even happens sometimes when I start up my pc after such a reset, before I can enter my password to load my pc account or right thereafter (during the "welcome" part basicallly).

What may be a factor is that if I have a lot of programs open, and use camtasia to make a video (high fps, fullscreen, usually for mm proofs) it often interrupts me after a while, and sets the windows scheme to a basic theme instead of one of the aero themes I use. Something about something being overloaded, I'll try to make a note of it when it happens again.

Whoever knows the solution to this will forever be my hero. The other option is buying a new pc, as this is really starting to piss me off :p

Maybe once out of dozens. Had them before, but that was fixed after vacuuming the dust out of my laptop.

Likely the hard drive beginning to fail. I've had similar issues with computers in the past, is it a laptop?

I've got the same issue. Mines a HP Pavillion laptop and it freezes up here and there. My only problem though is I can't just turn it off and boot it up again, as my HDD has completely shat it's self. I get boot up loops that just sit there etc.

Farcast is probably right, and from my experiences with this horrid shit is you're probably looking at the same problem. Mine can even start from simply flicking through different opened apps e.g iTunes and then Skype = major freeze up. Try opening up system repair on the laptop boot up and checking to see if your HDD is okay or not.

Backup everything if you can, and re-install the os.
