I have video game addiction. I play LoL nearly 5-6 hours a day on weekdays and 12+ hours during the weekends. Problem is, when I look back at the things I accomplished, it's blank. I feel that video games has taken away my life from studying, being successful in life, and getting to know the outside world. Can I get some advice on how to quit gaming? This question seems very easy to ask but it is very hard to do.

I used to have an addiction to video games too. It was easy to quit. I just gave my friend my account and he didn't tell my password until I showed progress in school. After I made progress in school, video games weren't that addictive anymore but it's still fun from time to time.

depends on your age. schooling is very important. If you were a hard core gamer with sexy grade then you'd be good. make sure the games are the problem and you don't have ADhD or something. switch up the types of games too. like play comp games then play another system or games that don't require MASS hours to gain anything.

Try using the games as a reward. Study for a couple pf hours and then play a game. Spend an hour outside with a friend/exercise etc, then have another hour.

Sleep early and wake early - get in to a healthy routine. You'll see differences in your mental ability and emotional stability most likely - and use that as motivation to keep it up.

U gotta not make video games ur top priority. Focus and think about the consequences and ask yourself do u even achieve anything from the game besides instant gratification? Apart from that tell urself ur studies, friends and family what u can gain from that and after rationalising things out decide and make the important things ur priority in ur life. Ofc video games can be played time to time but not excessively.

During high school most don't care and working at a bk will be fine. Once you're out the cold truth hits. Your friends pass you and you have nothing to show for it. You need to kick yourself in the ass and change your priority. Sure you can game 24/7 but you better have bomb ass grades.

Now the cold truth. If you don't realise and want it for yourself you will only fuck YOURSELF over. No one gives a shit about you man you will be on your own in the world soon and it's going to fuck you up and kick you will you're down.
    Plan:
    * don't stop gaming it's clearly your thing
    * plan a future goal or profession
    * research what it's going to take to get there
    * decide the route you will take education wise
    * get off your ass don't be the faggot partying smoking weed and dedicate all your time to that goal. Game when you have free time.

The rest you will learn on your own now quit being a little bitch I armed you with success. Nothing will be handed to you it will all come from the effort you put into it. Sob story over close this thread and decide on your future

    Uninstall the game.
Use browser plugins to block the website for further re-installation.
Substitute the need for gaming with something productive/healthy. (Eg: Sports, work, school)

It really depends on how disciplined you are.

It works with websites, not applications. If you uninstall LoL, blocking the website would prevent you from re-downloading it.

Use to do a lot of gaming, but it went down.
Here's my advice (good cop): Focus on school and grades, spend quality time with friends and family (that doesn't mean partying), and also getting a job. This keeps you busy and provides money.

Don't give yourself too much free time, that's the key. When you do the above, the time left you have use it on games that aren't MMO based. A fine example would be playing sports games or quick shooter for an hour or two. Or find another hobby.

More advice (bad cop method): I know people well into their adulthood still addicted to games, and these people could've been much more than regular job holders and gamers. Indeed, very smart people but put priority into one thing. So, don't frickin screw yourself over, you know this games addictive, just sell the account if its valuable, then uninstall, block installation site, and listen to good cop above.

Thanks for all the advice. One more thing, as I stated above, I am in high school and doing really well. I have straight A's taking AP and Honor classes. Everyday I go home at around 3 pm, I do my homework for around 2 hours (includes study), then I have like 6 hours of free time. Is there anything else I can do with that free time that will be productive and not be playing games?

Read. Books, articles, opinions, newspapers, forums, anything. Read. You'll be glad you did.
Get a job maybe? Or gaming related productive stuff? Streaming, videos, blog, etc
Exercise, take up a sport, set yourself a distance and train to run it, cycle it, swim it, jump it, etc

You shouldn't throw away your free time for unnecessary obligations. You'll be brain dead trying to revolve your life around not playing video games when you already conditioned yourself. You just need to moderate the time you spend playing so it doesn't overwhelm your life. If you feel like a certain game takes a toll on you, ditch it, but don't have it sacrifice all games.

Used to play games absolutely loads, ruined my life for a year or two and completely failed with my school grades. Was in denial though and in the end the problem just kinda sorted itself out, realised there was much more to life and it was much more enjoyable to do other things.

When will I actually figure out that there is more to life?

You might find it soon...It might be a sudden realisation later in life or it may never happen...There is no way of knowing or specific timeframe...
