Looking for some high quality headphones

I just graduated and came into some money so I want to get some new over the ear headphones that I can use at work. I have the SteelSeries Siberia V2 at the moment and they are good but make me sweat and get uncomfortable after a number of hours of use. So I'm looking for something more comfortable. Sound quality is not all that important since I won't notice it anyways. It doesn't need a mic but if there is one I won't mind. If anyone can recommend anything, that would be great.

 

What kind of work will you be doing? Sitting at a desk or do you need something more rugged?

I always recommend audio technica ath m50's non-audiophiles ask me what headset to get. Its a good deal, looks nice, sounds great, etc.

Its hard to recommend though since you're putting comfort over sound quality. That's super subjective with different head shapes and such. The m50's are comfortable enough for me but maybe not the same for you.

Either as long as it is a long wire. I'd do anything under $250 but less is better.

 

You should throw another $200 in there and get Studio Beats. Everybody always gives the Beats franchise shit but I got a pair and I just made the trip from San Diego to South America wearing them the entire time. My ears never once got uncomfortable and I have almost big ears. The sound quality is probably not the BEST but to me, it sounds like I'm at a damn concert. Not to mention they're wireless and never cut in or out.

Beats are complete shit and I won't buy them.

Because they sound like tin cans strapped to your face compared to anything in the price range, and even to some $100 headphones.

I know this is not market section but I do have a set of brand new white JBL S500 headphones. I don't know much about headphones so not sure if these are good or not for you but they have good reviews online.

Anyways if anyone else can recommend these to you, I can sell them cheaper then anywhere online since I had them sitting there for a while.

 

Anything Sennheiser is worth a purchase, max out for your budget.

As for beats, stay well clear. I've had two pairs including diddy beat in-ears.. All lasted around a month each before the speakers were rattling.

Personally haven't tried them. Can't vouch/bash them. I have had people that recommend the 598s.

AKG K701s/Q701s/K702s/etc.
K701s are what I personally use. They are great cans with excellent comfort. The problem with them is that the little plastic pieces on the sides tend to snap and aren't -easily- fixed. Customer service is... well... inadequate in the US. But they are superb headphones in terms of just about any game you play. A simple mod on them gives an extra kick to the bass if you feel like it's soft. I actually like the pair so much that I picked up a second set. The Qs and 702s are practically equivalent to the K701s (minor tweaks). The downside to these (for some) is that they do often require an amp to get full sound out. They also are build on a 1/4" jack.

V-Moda Crossfades LP
These are my personal traveling headphones. They are comfortable to me, soft and after their initial burn in sound relatively decent. Considering I picked them up for like $80, it wasn't a bad deal at all.

Ultimate Ears UE6000
A discontinued headphone that I picked up off of Amazon for around the same price as the Crossfades (although I have seen them drop to $40). Bass-ey, but you need to turn on the "Active Noise Canceling" to get any half-decent sound out of them. This uses a AAA battery and so can be worn down. Comfort is -okay- but not fantastic.

Plantronics Gamecom 780
Tried them on a recommendation from a friend: All around horrid headset. Uncomfortable, sound is mediocre at best, and USB.

Audio Technica ATH-M50s
As DD recommended, these are a decent entry level [audiophile] headphone from what I understand. Again I have not personally tried, so I cannot vouch/bash.

If your issue is comfort, there unfortunately isn't too much we can help with. All headphones will tend to be warm except for IEMs - those tend to get uncomfortable though. If you live near NYC (which I thought I remembered seeing you in NY)... I might recommend going to B&H Audio. And or wandering around and finding the other headphone stores within the city. Most have demo studios where you can try them on and check comfort, etc.

Just my thoughts on it.

I use ASTRO A40's they're great and the amp it comes with is fantastic

 

Used Astros for when I was gaming a lot on XBL.

Looking for good headphones though for being out and about and not just a headset.

 

If you're looking for an all around fun headset the V-MODA Crossfades are excellent... HOWEVER, they're probably not going to stand up to a more expensive pair. They are great though and the fact that you can build custom shields for them, making them something special to you makes them even more fantastic. They are certainly an hours-on-end headphone to me.

If I ever get the money for a pair of ATH-M50s, I'd try those out... but those are the other entry level ones I know for portable headphones that MANY audiophiles recommend.

**Keep in mind you may want to do a little research on an audiophile forum. And that you should research headphone burn-ins. ALSO: NEVER BURN IN IEM!

You also should specify what type of music you're looking to listen to. Would help in giving you a more accurate recommendation on headphones!
