Thats what homophobic people do. And you're justifying it by saying some LGBT folks are violent and hateful toward hetero folks

Is homophobia a bad thing?

Right, that's what literal homophobic people do. However, the gay etc movement very aggressively uses the term "homobobe" against heterosexuals in a demeaning way, just like when people use "nigger" as an insult, just because they don't support their agenda. It's a one sided attack of the gay etc movement against individuals and businesses to intimidate them.

Not saying there isn't, but can anyone actually show that a gay gene actually exists, from a credible source, with proof?

Is homophobia a bad thing?

Link doesn't work.

Well I cannot. However, a person who comes to realize they're attracted to the same sex as opposed to the opposite sex is not a matter of chance, nor is it a choice that is made. Choosing to act upon their instincts is a choice.
If it cannot be disproved/proved doesn't give the authority to assume choice.

If you are a heterosexual is it possible for you to get aroused by thinking of the same sex? Would you get the same reaction being faced with a naked attractive female as you would a naked attractive male?

I imagine that it's not possible for me to do that as a matter of choice. And looking at it from a homosexual point of view, it's literally the same.

If you really believe it's a choice, perhaps you should try your opposite and see if you'd like to continue that way in future.

The amount of homosexual teenagers that commit suicide in fear of acceptance is beyond devastating. I'm sure if they could make a conscious decision to choose to swap their natural instincts that they would make that decision rather than to end their life.

And it's the opposing view that believe they have a choice and should choose alternatively that provides the evil in society, as well as providing ignorant theists with probable arguments when others believe this idiocy as well.

Fear can derive from anger or hatred. It's not necessarily the fear of someone, rather the label that is associated with that person. Wouldn't you say we're all bigoted? We all find ideas that we don't find acceptable or tolerant. Murderers/Whistle blowers/Thieves/Liars don't directly affect me, but we still find them offensive. Why is that? Oh, because we're bigots and follow a moral code that says we should. You reiterate the word I as if your opinion holds any more weight than the ones opposing you.

Stop posting on this thread.

Because society is the epitome of suppression. If your views are not one that is identical to that of the majority, you're ridiculed for it. Anyone you're associated with also takes heat for supporting you, causing unnecessary collateral damage. I was thorough in my delivery, and it hasn't changed. This whole debate revolves around if homophobia is a "bad thing", I mean it's in the title for heavens sake. Is the aversion of homosexuality inferior? The only way to determine that is to look at the social construct of a society, and it's moral code. There is no universal code that oppresses views of the minority. I've already explained why sexuality and ethnicity are not, and should not be looked at congruently in terms of importance. Your sexuality doesn't define you, your ethnicity does. Like I said before, your sexual orientation can change, your ethnicity cannot. When identifying a person, is their sexual orientation ever mentioned?

http://www.yoursexualorientation.info/Sexual_Orientation_Myths.php

Myth #6: A person’s sexual orientation is unchanging throughout their lifetime.

You would be ignorant to ignore human curiosity. It's all about arousal and stimulating pleasure. Humans being one of the few mammals that have sex just for the pleasure suggests that gender should not matter as long as you're being pleasured.

You can't make general claims like "if your views are not identical to the majority you're ridiculed for it". We have free speech which speaks adamantly to the contrary. Sure, sometimes the views of the minority are quashed, but that cannot be turned into some kind of rule.
Also, as I identified earlier in the thread and as is implicit in my last post, irrational homophobia is neither right nor wrong, while rational homophobia (a rational hatred of homosexuals) is wrong -- and for reasons unrelated to society.

So you've cited something that doesn't back up your point at all? You're saying you can change your sexual preference consciously. Where'as what you've stated there does not claim that what so ever..?

I never said you are born gay, stay gay and never change. I'm saying you cannot force yourself to be aroused/attracted to what you are not.

Also, you probably should read myth #7.

Myth #7: A person can change their sexual orientation from gay to straight if they really want to.

Because the mix of emotional and physical attractions toward males and females can change over time for some people, anti-gay advocates have seized upon this phenomenon as “proof” that a gay person can become straight through certain interventions, usually a combination of prayer and “reparative therapy.”

To be sure, a person can change their sexual behavior, regardless of their physical attractions. They can choose to be celibate or engage in sexual behavior only with people of the other sex. And sometimes a gay person becomes emotionally attached to someone of the other sex, loves them, and marries them, perhaps happily. For such individuals, physical attractions to persons of the same sex persist, however. But a person cannot change from having exclusive attractions to people of the same sex to having exclusive attractions to people of the other sex.

Murderers, thieves, liars, etc. have a choice whereas gay people don't. And it is not my intention for it to seem like I'm trying to make my opinion weigh more.

Couldn't agree more, I understand that some individuals may feel strongly about it but I wouldn't accept it being harshly demonstrated. Just like for racism and such.

I think everyone has the right to be happy, whatever their definition of happy is.

I am not homophobic. I don't think it's a bad thing either. Some people are even afraid of their body parts like their hand and get it chopped off. It's a fear like the rest of the phobias. Now hating humans because of their sexuality is a different story.

In my opinion yes it is a bad thing, however some homosexuals can attract a lot of attention in the way there are which leads to the abuse.

I don't think disliking the act of same sex relationships is bad. However I feel it's bad to discriminate and make somebody homosexual feel bad.

Is homophobia a bad thing?

I read an interesting article suggesting that homophobia is a completely mental cause.

Whilst we know a lot about the human anatomy, there are things related with the brain which we have not yet fully discovered.

Is homophobia a bad thing?

I haven't really thoroughly read through the whole discussion thread, but I think the term homophobe gets thrown around too easily these days. I, for one, do not completely understand homosexuality, so there are cases where I am uncomfortable in the presence of gays or lesbians. However, I wouldn't describe myself as outright fearful of them.

to summarize - homophobia is bad, but people tend to stretch that definition to fit whoever they want into that grouping.

Is homophobia a bad thing?

I think we're at a point in the world that people need to accept everyone for who they are, someone being gay or a lesbian has ZERO effect on your day to day life. We all like different things and we all express our loves and hates differently.

We've come a long way since the early 1900's and I hope we can continue to accept everyone.
