If you compare the standard of living lets say 20 years ago and the standard of living now, all of us have it easier. However, having everything handed to us on a silver platter is not beneficial in my opinion. It makes us lazy, greedy, and selfish.

    Ruining our live hmm naaah.

Parents should just learn the kids to not sit and play 24/7 or on the mobile phone all day. But be more social. Nowadays when i am entering a train i see more then half of the people sitting on there phones. Like come on how many times do you need to check Facebook or Twitter.

But i dont think that Computer games are ruining people life.

Totally agree. Do let yourself be a slave of the game, it's ok.

I have to agree with the OP on this. PC and PC games are ruining lives of people who just spend their time carelessly in front of screens rather than living their livelihood like they should be living it. Spending on Virtual Game Currency/Items more than what they can afford. Decline of the human mind.

I wouldn't say so. I played a lot of computer games during my high school years, and I was still able to get the grades that were required for my program.

What really matters is being able to keep your relationships with friends and family, while still having time to play your favorite games. If you're missing those, well, you may want to look at how much time you're really spending online.

Computer games don't ruin peoples life it actually provides a sense of entertainment and de-stress purposes
What kills you is the addictive nature of computer games and as long as you can maintain a balance it will be fine

Yes, and no. Really depends on whether or not it is abused. Too much of anything is bad. if kids are staying on their computers all day avoiding society, its horrible. If you're waiting for your girlfriend to finish shopping, pass by a internet cafe and play a few games to pass the time, then its not.

I tend not to mark games and micro-purchases in the same category. Micro-purchases are just a relatively new marketing ploy that generates more income than actually selling the game in most cases but if in the irresponsible hands of a youth that can rack up a $2,500 bill is quite simply appalling on both sides. That sort of intake shouldn't be allowed for a single user, but what can really be done about it.

As far as gaming goes it can have adverse affects on students, relationships and even careers if not managed well. For instance, say you arrive home and spend 3 hours studying/homework and 2 hours playing games, I think you're balancing it well, where'as 5 hours gaming and ignoring studying is the irresponsible way of doing it and can only lead to lower grades.

I think games are great, it gives the person an escape. Me personally whilst I was in school I was irresponsible. I would get home, straight on counter-strike and be playing with friends from school, as we were a competitive team it was required to spend a lot of time practicing, but I managed to let that overtake studying and homework. It was only when I was really forced to do something about it that I did, but I can see how easy it is to fall into the trap.

No, its not. Most people getting their life ruined by video games are the mentally weak ones that cant deal with the desire or addction if you will of playing a game, and turn it into part of their life that they NEED to do to feel complete.

I do not think games literally ruin someone but if you get stuck for 5h+ everyday, yes your life is ruined.

I don't believe that games are ruining peoples lives, just have to game in moderation and everything will be fine, people just need to realise what they are doing.

I don't think computer games ruin lives at all, people should do whatever makes them happy - and if spending most of your days playing computer games makes you happy, then go ahead and do it! I used to be fully addicted to runescape from 2004-2008, and I had some of the best times on there. Don't regret it at all!

If you have no self-discipline an nothing else to do, then yes i think it can very easily ruin your life [atleast for the moment]
You can always stop taking games too serious and wasting too much money/time :)

I don't think so. Video games keep my mind sharp. Also many studies prove that video games helps your brain i.e http://www.iflscience.com/categories/brain?page=2

However, it can be an addiction like anything else and cause problems. When I was 16 I played RuneScape at least 10 hours a day. Now I only log on to keep my account active for obvious reasons. umm.. I also played WoW a lot but not anymore. I will start gaming eventually.

Complex video games often directly improve hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and reasoning, strategic and critical thinking, reflex time, etc. For some predisposed individuals they may be habit-forming, but I think the pros outweigh the cons in most cases.

You need to grow up and realize that all the game companies are hiring psychologists/sociologists and brain imaging specialists to make their games as addictive as possible. This isn't some tin foil hat hokum but written about in dozens of mainstream news articles with job offers posted on their own sites.

It's why "achievements" and "gamer scores" are so prevalent on every gaming platform now. Why the xbone will be able to read your heart rate and track your eye movements. All they are interested in is making sure that you're hooked to their games on their platform. They don't care if you pirate, they'd rather you pirate their software than the competitor's.

This is a business that is bigger than hollywood and growing every year. What is best for the consumer is irrelevant to them

If you're addicted to something that has numerous benefits who's to say that's a bad thing? Especially if you enjoy it.
