skype is finished; say hello to firefox hello

    >Firefox Hello provides more value to Firefox users by making it easier to communicate with your friends and family who might not have the same video chat service, software or hardware as you. It’s free to make voice and video calls and there’s no need to download software, plugins or even create an account. It’s ready to go as soon as you open Firefox Beta by clicking on the ‘chat bubble’ icon under the customize menu. Hello allows you to connect with anyone who has a WebRTC-enabled browser, such as Firefox, Chrome or Opera.

    >One of the great features of Firefox Hello is that you don’t need to create an account in order to connect with the people that matter to you most. You simply share a callback link with the person you want to connect with and when they click on the link the call begins.

    >We’ve also added contacts management for the first time in this release. You can add contacts to your address book manually or import contacts from your Google account to Firefox Hello. Simply select ‘Import Contacts’ from the address book and then sign into your Google account to give permission. If your contacts have a Firefox Account and are online, then you can call these contacts directly from Firefox.

Anyone else foreseeing harmful exploits? It's a cool feature, but I think there are more google chrome users. I rather stick to one browser, rather than alternating between two just for one feature. Skype will always be used at a higher rate than any other messaging system for a long time, despite it's insecurities.

Not sure how that works in firefox's favor. Does this mean you're only able to start up a chat through firefox, or can you do so with any of the three browsers?

So many similar programs/projects atm, i doubt this will be a succes.
For sure it will be used by some users but there are just to many being made/released these days!

Im curious what makes you think that skype is finished because of this? ( topic name )

It will take a while to start up anyway. Why would people use it when no one else does right now. There will most likely be security flaws as well, I believe skype had a few in the past and I believe it's pretty safe now. No point in me trying a new messenger, that no one I know uses.

    ^this.

I think if you want to release a new messenger you need to integrate the most used for now next to it. So basically 1 program that contains all messengers.
Then when it comes popular start integrating your own messaging system and slowly let it take over and drop the others when the time is right.

No point in making ANOTHER program for now.
