Is running a RSPS profitable? I know you have to pay for a VPS/dedi, site, and other stuff, but I've seen owners that do nothing aside from collect donations. It seems like they make a decent amount of money, too. Would investing in a developer, site, server, and etc be worth the money?

What are your opinions?

 

unless you spend a shit ton on advertisements and/or have a unique server you won't get to the point of having constant donations roll in.

 

RSPS's can be very profitable. You need to offer a unique experience from other servers of course. If someone logs in and feels that its something they've seen before they aren't going to be very inclined to donate or stick around (they'll just go to the bigger server that already offers that).

It is mostly about advertising. You need to put the money in for a nice server, a nice website, getting yourself up on the toplists, email marketing, banners on toplists etc. I wouldn't start with under $500 if you're hoping to do it right and make it successful.

You need to find a balance of offering in-game perks without shoving it down peoples throats or breaking the game. A good way to do that is have most items available to everyone through earning them slowly, with an option to receive the item more quickly by buying it in the shop with real money. Things like that.

Good luck, I love seeing new servers starting up. The RSPS community needs fresh ideas.

 

Your going to have to make your server popular for one, than have good updates and content which will require a dedicated developer

 

Well the top server owners are definitely making like 20k+ a year, but unless you have a really nice server that pulls players then you won't be making much money until you hit that stage of being one of the top servers.

 

20k a month*, at least in volume. Big servers like SS, Ikov, etc make bank.

 

RSPS can be very profitable if ran right and has right content.

I would love to see papers showing 20k+ a month, definitely not. Maybe upwards to 5k+ a month but I don't see anyone owning a private server making $240k+ a year. Hell. No.

 

If you have very good developers and a good source, yes it's very profitable. Ikov easily pulls way over $5k each month.

 

Yup. Saw a guy who donated $2k+among two accounts on ikov. What the fuck.

Yes but there are alot of rsps's now. You really need to make a lag-free and bug-free and unique rsps. Soulsplit is shit coded but the ceo has an own hq from the server with 15 people working at it so he will make alot of money.

 

If ur special in some way its big money to cash out yes
