How they scammed: 3 days of waiting, he loses more games than wins, drops me to gold 2 then stops playing on the account.

Don't do that til we know what's happening. If you win the dispute and then he completes the order then obviously you'll have to repay him now.

Please don't take counter-action in future 'til you've reported them and it's concluded that the other trader scammed you.

 

He was going to refund it, was apparently having tech problems. Let your dispute run it's course and when you have the money back just leave it at that - if you don't get it back through the dispute he'll refund you.
