Eggcrate foam, foam insullation, ceiling tile and just layering shit over your walls (like blankets) will all damper sound signifigantly.

Ive built several "sound proof" rooms in my line of work. How we do it is use furring channel on the existing walls (or build new walls with 6" studs stuffed with insullation:: joints sealed with acoustical caulk, drop in an acoustic ceiling and then put foam on the walls) and put foam on the walls.

But thats for recording studios and whatnot and would cost thousands of dollars.. buying 100-200 usd of foam and layering over the walls would be your best bet

Yeah I was going to say, that's certainly more than a clandestine level procedure haha. So literally just laying tapestries and things like that over the walls will help significantly? I can figure out which walls face my neighbors and then just put a huge, rather thick, tapestry over the wall and it'll make a noticeable difference?

Yep. Especially over the windows as the perimeter walls (and hopefully ALL) of your walls are insulated and sheetrocked. The thicker the better ofcourse. Sorry I cant really help on any other fronts.

Not a problem, I appreciate any info I can get!

Would it be worthwhile to layer things over the windows? I currently have heat/light blocking curtains over my windows but I could probably arrange to have a sheet draped over them as well?

Any tips on how to soundproof my door specifically? Something that works but can also be taken down and put back up quickly (so I can open the door when necessary)

Hmm residential doors are cheaply made and hollowcore so thatd be a tough one. Sealing the large gap at the base of the door with a towell will help. A door would be an ideal location to put the eggcrate foam on, just use double stick tape. An alternative would be having a thick blanket hung over the door way and pushing it aside like a curtain

Will the towel still help even if it's dry?

Is there a way to get the foam to stay? Like could I use it for the sides and top of the door frame and somehow seal the foam in so that I can open and close the door without the foam getting messed up?

(I'd be fine with having to exert a little extra force to open/close the door..no idea how that would work)

Dog I'm completely in love with my stereo setup. I got two sick ass 10 inch Fischer speakers from the local thrift store for $25 and a Lepai 2020 T amp for $20 from Amazon to power them (thinking I may need another one since I can't max out the speakers yet). It's loud, sounds amazing, all around solid setup. Now, things got fucking interesting at this garage sale I was at a couple weeks ago.. Long story short, I walked away with a $600 like-brand-new Velodyne 10 inch subwoofer for twelve dollars that I've incorporated into my setup (which also includes some car speakers or whatever I've had for years). I know it sounds simple and I understand the skepticism but you would be amazed.. It fucking roars.

Moral of the story.. There is no reason to invest in fancy and expensive stereo equipment. You just need to know where to look for the good stuff. Use speakers meant for bare wires (don't know any terminology) so you can put the speakers anywhere and run cable or put any plug on it you want cheaply.

    Thanks for replying!

Your setup does sound pretty awesome. The problem is, you said I should look for speakers that are standard (as in I could run wires to them). I really want my setup to look clean so I would definitely prefer a bluetooth option. My walls are fairly thick so I do want a speaker in each room (3-5 speakers needed most likely) and the distance around the corners and all that makes running aux cords between equipment not really all that feasible.

tl;dr thanks for the idea but I want a cleaner (cordless) setup
