Should Roger Gooddell be Fired?

Simple question...Should there be a new commissioner for the NFL after this Ray Rice incident?

He claims he never had access to the video, but there are sources saying they did. (I think it's confirmed now and undergoing a FBI investigation) Why should seeing the video alter a punishment? That's why I'm questioning Gooddell. Why must a video be shown to give out a girthier sentence.

Well first off I believe the 2 game suspension within itself was a poor choice. But that alone isn't enough for him to be fired people make mistakes. Now if the truth comes out and he had seen the video that he claimed he hadn't seen and he lied to everyone then yes I believe he should be relieved of duty.

 

Should he? That's debatable.

Will people want him gone? Definitely. His points of emphasis are really frustrating, especially hands to the face and pass interference.

Will he go? Highly doubt it. The owners will stand behind him as long as they think he is going to continue to make them money and will only be replaced with another puppet if he becomes too much of a liability. Robert Kraft the owner of the Patriots has publicly come forth to say Goodell's handling of the situation was "excellent" (http://bostonherald.com/sports/patr...owner_robert_kraft_defends_commissioner_roger). While Kraft is just putting his foot in his mouth I think it shows that the owners are just going to weather the storm and stand by their man.

 

Even though the 2 game suspension was too light, Ray Rice faced harsher punishment from the NFL than actual law enforcement...the real ones who should be to blame here, not the league. They definitely had the evidence from day 1 and it was seemingly slipped under the rug.

The only thing I disagree with is the initial 2 game suspension. It should have been more like 8 initially and then with the other footage coming to light at least a full season suspension. However anybody saying Goodell had the tapes prior needs to actually prove it. And still then, I don't see any punishment befalling him.

 

I just think it's stupid that just because of a video...the suspension is lengthened?

Shouldn't it be the same even without video? You need to see video of a man punching a woman to full grasp the concept?

That's what frustrates me.

 

That's my big gripe about it too bro, it doesn't exactly need to be thought about what happened in that elevator. Enough of the puzzle pieces were there to intimate what happened, the video simply further confirmed it. Should have just been a longer initial ban than the 2 games, which was totally unacceptable.

 

No I don't think he needs to be fired because of this situation anyways. A lot of people i've talked to are upset with Gooddell because he had seen the video and didn't tell anybody about it - but it was leaked to him and he wasn't supposed to have it to begin with. It would have been illegal (i believe?) for him to share the video.

I'm neutral on the stance of whether Gooddell should be fired or not, but theres a rule (I forgot what it is) that once someone has been officially sentenced for their crime, they are not allowed to add on to the sentence afterwards, so that could spark up some controversy of whether Gooddell is "fit" to be making these calls.

 

Ray Rice: "Yeah man, I punched her."
Roger Goodell: "Okay, 2 game suspension."

*Goodell sees new video*

Roger Goodell: "Oh shit, he actually did punch her. Indefinite suspension."

Makes no sense.
