I'd get a meaningless tattoo if it felt right in the moment: eventually your body winds up like a canvas covered in memories. Some good, some bad: the story of your life as a human :)

    Maybe where you're from.

Tattoos (sleeves and excessive tattoos in particular) represent poor judgment. <-- Associative with working, so you can see how it would affect the future of the person getting it.

In my opinion, excessive tattoos look disgusting and scream "LOOK AT ME PLEASE, I WANT ATTENTION".

I mean, if you're gonna compare it so closely to fashion or driving a suped up car, I would NEVER chose to drive the SAME car my whole life, or wear the SAME hat my whole life.

It's the principle of doing it to "be cool" or because its what you're in to, not the length it's in your life. If nobody did anything to suit their style then we'd all be boring clones.

Nobody is forcing YOU to get inked, so having the opinion of "its dumb" or "you'll regret it" is their problem, not anyone else's. That's all I'm sayin'.

@Ghast, I dont think they reflect poor judgement. I'm never gonna not do something harmless like get a tattoo I want to out of fear of what others might think. I would rather associate with people who are their own vibrant, interesting characters than people who are afraid to make commitments because of what the next person might say or not let them do. If someone doesn't want fo hire me in future cause I'm inked then it's their loss for being shallow, and not mine for being myself. If they can't respect individuality then I don't wanna work for em; plenty of people out there will hire people with character or tenacity.

I also wouldn't associate tattoo'd folks with wanting attention in that way. It's being ballsy enough to look how you wanna look and feel good about yourself. If that vice is a piercing or ink or loads of makeup or trendy, expensive clothes in order to make that person feel body positive or good about themselves then fuck what people think.

You should know better than most people that a business depends on profits to grow. Don't blame the employer for making a rational decision that reflects the business as a whole, no, blame human nature for making us so judgmental. There is more to tattoos than just ink on the skin.

Are you saying people who get tattoos are more vibrant, interesting characters who are committed to something than those who don't own one?

Yes, because following trends and wanting attention makes them all of the above if not one.

They don't do it for attention? I'm 100% sure everyone who gets tattoos does it for attention, especially those who get excessive amounts on skin that is exposed most of the time.

Am I going to get a tattoo and expect no attention from it? No. I'm going to show it if possible. It's basic human nature.

4 of my six tattoos are entirely covered by a tshirt or pants. You are making gross generalizations here and really looking like a judgmental prick. Tattooing isnt a new phenomena.. sure a lot of people are getting stupid tribal shit and whatnot but not everyone.

You probably call maori hipsters too.

I think that tattoos that are traditional are a bit different. The fact you're getting so defensive about it shows you think there is some truth to what he is saying. Really, every tattoo IS for attention, even if its for other reasons also. There's plenty of other things you can do to show you are in touch with your roots than to have a picture permanently on your body.

Can the psuedo psychology, you dont know shit. Ive got a couple tattoos no one but the artist and my gf know about. Its because they are personal. You dont know me and cant speak for everyone who has tattoos, nor can ghast.

"Being in touch with your roots" is only one reason for someone to get a tattoo, you guys are both pretty closed minded on the matter.

Well. Reading about piercings to start with got me interested.
I have my ears pierced . no gauges And nothing else like horrific.
I have 1 lip ring. And I wear it to work. ( maintenance at a residential facility)
And I have a forearm piece that I show proudly as it is a word that represents what I have been through
Its not trashy. It is the true meaning it has behind them.
I don't think there is self control. It is like art. But forever on your body unless you get a cover or you get it removed.
