Need help deciding on what laptop to buy

I'm going off to university very soon and i need to buy a new laptop. Thinking about buying a macbook air/pro. What would you guys recommend.

 

I'd recommend pretty much anything EXCEPT a macbook air/pro. They're overpriced and underpowered.

What is your budget and what are you going to be mainly using it for?

What do you want it for? Gaming or just a simple one?

 

I have a macbook air and Im totally content with it. It's really light and portable and very fast. My main uses for it are netflix, essays, runescape, and general web browsing. It is a bit overpriced but you can probably get a college discount like me and pick it up for a decent price.

 

Macbook is awesome i got 6 people in my class have it and i tried use it sometime is smooth and cool. If you have the money to effort it then go buy it but i say buy air. as i like it the most.

 

most of my old classmates are using a macbook, it's awesome i used it too, now i a bought a iMac and i have to say it's awesome

 

thanks for the replies guys, im not looking for a gaming laptop or anything, just a good laptop for university. if it helps im going to be studying computer science. atm im leaning towards the macbook air, mainly because of its 12 hour battery life and its small and light, very easy to carry around. still open to suggestions. also can anyone tell me whats better, a macbook pro or air?

For what you're going to use it you won't notice much difference in terms of performance between Macbook Air and Macbook Pro. Only difference you will notice is weight and screen quality, Air will be lighter and Pro will have a better screen, so will depend what you value more, lightness or screen quality.

I would also recommend Surface Pro 3 which is lightweight and has high quality screen.

Personally I haven't had any experience with macbooks, but apple is generally super overpriced and not great. If you're doing computer science, wouldn't you be working more with windows than mac?

I would imagine you would be working with windows, and if that is the case then a windows laptop would be best. Plus you'll be getting better specs for a lower price, apple is kind of made for idiots.

For that price I would recommend the Surface Pro 3 for Windows or Macbook Air if you prefer OSX.

 

By the off chance you need windows, you can use Window 7 or 8 through bootcamp or parallels on mac. That way you can use any operating system you want but mind this, macs are better suited for OSX and windows laptops are better suited for Window OS.
