Im still new to it since I dont do it professionally so im ignorant to some of the terms but JFC ive tried my hand at verical welding and I have not got the technique down at ALL lol.

Finally got to where I get could get my tombstone to arc regularly. Took it to a buddy who knows more about welding than I do and he opened the machine up and the copper was all corroded like an old battery. Cleaned up the machine and im having a lot less issues.

Also got the oppurtunity to run his mig welder a good bit and it helped a lot with my technique not having to fiddle with the damned stick. Still havent gotten to use a tig unit, where does it land in terms of difficulty?? Havent done any welding in near two months :S. Im slacking.

My last little project was cutting a notch in the adjustment screw on ALL my vice grips nd tacking a washer in the groove I cut for easier adjustment. Improved them by quite a bit, little bit of custom work makes them a lot easier to spot too should anyone get sticky fingers.

Im a pretty novice welder. All self taught (internet and asking questions) and I knew exactly what delta was talking about. I was more confused about his "bender" and various shop equipment.

If your friend Tim is going to school for welding and has no clue what deltas talking about there are a number of things that could be wrong.

    A) Tim is fucking stupid
    B) Tims school is not teaching him shit
    C) A combination of the two

And delta, ill be far more apt to weld more come fall and winter. I live in Texas man and I weld in the garage, too fucking hot wearing sleeves helmet ect. Kills me, at this time I only weld out of necessity. When fall time comes ill tinker a little more. What exactly do you do for work? What sort of shop is that? I have a buddy who is oddly enough a duct man that pre fabs a lot of duct in their shop who has given me some tips (and occasional use of his mig rig).

bender is just a 20 ton jack with a arm put on it, will take a photo of this tomorrow, and you bend the plate its a destructive test.

and its at a school here in atlanta, im just dilly dadding, but i work for the boilermakers union, i acc have to go down to savannah monday to meet with them to do a piss test.

But i do it all, stick- SMAW, TIG - GTAW, MIG- GMAW, Flux core mig- FCAW.
If you wnna give me your address i have a welding book, and a workbook i can send you that would help you out, and anytime before you go into the shop hit me up, and ill send you a video on how to do w/e is your about to do.

Some technical state college. He started like 2 months ago but he's known what he wanted to study for a long time so I expected him to at least know something. Either the school sucks or he does lmfao.

Hell yeah! If you are done with the book or have any stuff to help me along with stick welding id love it. Im interested in the other types of welding but being in commercial construction all the iron workers use stick and the duct men mostly use stick occasionally using mig so I hardly have the chance to see how the others are done let alone get to try and I dont plan on investing in any other machines aside from a mig unit if I find one cheap.

Are boilermakers contracted by general contractors? My uncle is a super for New South and does TONS of work in your area (my dads side is from GA).

Hey Delta. I'm not that huge into welding but how different is what you're doing from lets say a stitch weld typically used on cars?

Have any of your welds been tested non-destructively? As a weld can be clean on the surface and full of volumetric defects inside!

(I should know, I've got my radiography & ultrasonics tickets!)
