UK Raises Terror Threat Level from "Substantial" to "Severe"

Severe threat level is the 4th of 5 levels. The only way to reach the fifth level is during and just after terror attacks.

I'm more likely to die in a car accident than a terror attack. Terrorism is less scary than driving to the store.

Not knowing mostly scares more and living in 'secure' countries makes terrorism something like a child play.

 

Glad I dont live in London then, any terrorism within the UK would be targeted at London.

 

SuF you neglect to mention that when we get in our cars its a calculated risk. The last time I stepped into my car and thought I might die was probably today on the on ramp tot he highway. Terrorist attacks are sparatic and idk about you, but the last time I thought I was going to be blown up was playing demolition in MW2.

Maybe, there's more police here than anywhere in the UK. Not to mention the amount of CCTV. Sure it wouldn't exactly stop a bomb going off, but it would make things a lot more difficult here.

Statistically speaking, yes, this is correct. However I don't think it means you should count out the possibility of this terrorist group taking action. The head of ISIS is essentially the new Bin Laden and he's already shown that his extremist ideologies include things like beheading people. They're completely bonkers and even our numerous airstrikes on them are failing to have much of an effect. I'm not saying panic and be scared but you should always be on your toes.

I hope you're being facetious. Of course people fear terrorism... IT'S CALLED TERROR-ISM FOR A REASON. Their radical statements and actions are designed to instill fear and spread panic. Especially if you're living in the UK -- ISIS just beheaded some random British journalist.

 

You can't do anything to stop it so don't worry about it. Its so unlikely to happen that you shouldn't concern yourself. I'd agree they need to be stopped but you should not be frightened about them.

 

Think you mean an American journalist. To my knowledge, it was a Briton who committed the beheading.

If you're going to die in a terrorist attack its most like you won't feel a thing as your body of you and your colleagues blow into a million little pieces. How can you fear something you didn't have time to react to?

 

On a personal level my principles almost don't let me do that. I like to be aware of world events, and if that means I may be concerned about concerning events, well so be it. When Adolf Hitler took his first steps in his Nazi dictatorship, you know what everyone in America (including the government) said? "Oh no, don't worry about it, it's not going anywhere." Maybe we can't do anything to stop from our position but if 2 weeks from now ISIS is bombing major US cities, guess who has a gameplan already and guess who is scrambling in the streets like an idiot?

"Death" is not the only thing to be concerned about with terrorist attacks. Also, terrorist attacks aren't limited to some backpack bomb, biological attacks are a huge threat to mankind as a whole.
