Do you HONESTLY believe in God?

The person I replied to said that there's historical evidence proving the events happened.
And anyways, that's exactly the point I'm trying to get across. We can't repeat the phenomena of said events in the present, or even deem them possible, so what reason is there to believe in them?

 

I don't personally believe in deities but I dislike most religions.

I'll pick on Islam for a moment only because this is the best example of corruption I can think of from the top of my head.

The book Bukhari states that Mohammed married his favorite wife Aisha at age 6 (6:298) and had intercourse with the per pubescent Aisha at age 9 (7:62.88).

Many argue that this was normal for the time, but there isn't a shred of historical evidence that supports claims that pedophilia was the social norm in 7th century Arabia.

Muslims know this, but they just don't care. I think that's sickening.

I just want to clarify that I'm not trying to bash any religion, just reciting content from the Bukhari.

 

I will answer the two questions provided in OP and anything posted after now, as I won't read 140~ posts.

1. I currently don't believe in any God or anything of the sort. I was raised as a Christian, but when I turned probably around 12, I was sick of being fed thoughts as such, and thought it was all nonsense.

2. When I was younger I would explore all sorts of ideas on how we "came to be" and what our purpose is. Currently, I don't believe there is a purpose, other then just being here.

 

Answering OP, no I do not believe in any religion or deity, I grew up believing in god but as I got older and I learned more and more and the answers I attributed to god were no longer attributed to god.

 

When people ask my why I don't believe in god, and when I made this decision, i reply with "It wasn't a conscience decision. I suppose that when I was told, or realized for myself that Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy weren't real, the most ludicrous of stories about an all-seeing immortal deity seemed fallacious as well."

Yes, I honestly do believe in God, my parents are very religious but I am not religious. I hate religion and they're bullshit, you don't need religion in order to be "saved", it's with the relationship with God and because of religion, people judge other people's lives like "Oh hey look, this man is sinful and he's not going to be saved."

Let's look at the film "the innocence of Muslims", it was a film in bad taste that depicted Muslims as violent and irrational people - how did the react? With irrational violence.

Oppression, especially toward women is deeply entrenched in Islamic culture. Is it really that hard to accept that the "prophet" was like this? That the reason Islamic culture tends to be misogynistic is because the "prophet"s way of life inspired other powerful, sexist men?

Remember, the books of Bukhari were written by muslims, not critics.

EDIT: I just want to clarify that I've read the Quran multiple times and have also read the Bukhari (both translated), so this isn't a mindless bashing.

 

I don't believe in the God that all the churches and religions look up to as some dude with long hair and a beard and died for everyone's sin. My honest opinion is the "God" everyone looks up to was a fraud just like a Ponzi scheme set up in today's age. All that BS in the bible is written from different people and has stuff in it like "If a women has sex before she's married all the men in the village are allowed to stone her to death" and "A Slave must submit to their master no matter what". I doubt the world was just created out of nothing though, there's probably another dimension where time doesn't even exist.

 

God is a false being created by man to aspire fear and promote order. I believe there is a deity that is unknown who created all that is living. Prayers are unanswered placebos supported by coincidences. Churches are profitable organizations who take advantage of peoples faith.

Well, I believe in God. Nothing specific, I just believe in what is considered to be a "God".

Reason why? Well I use it as an excuse for a lot of things, and allows me to just not have to worry about a bunch of shit when I can just resort to the thought of a "God". I don't know what there is, if there is anything but all I know is that I believe in a greater super being which is amongst us, which is considered to be a God.

 

No i don't believe in God. But my subconscious kind of does.
I know that there isn't a God who controls everything, but couse of i have been rised with fear of hell and God, i can't shake the fear deep inside of me, not yet.

 

I think that a lot of people only claim to be religious because it is socially acceptable.

I think claiming God to cure something unfairly takes credit away from the actual human beings who are responsible for such a change.

"God healed me and let me live" after surgery is like saying you didn't need a surgeon.

Learn to edit your posts instead of posting new ones.

"God is dead" is a rhetorical statement - not a literal one. I'd suggest trying to think about this intellectually instead of just spouting your opinions - particularly considering you've not provided us any reason to think what you believe is actually correct.

Basically: a debate and discussion forum warrants actual debate and discussion.
