ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Has anyone on Sythe been nominated to complete the ice bucket challenge? If so I'd love to see some of your videos. I've been a part of two in the last two days which both have been really fun. Last night we took two of our fire trucks down to a local field and one of our firefighters dumped a bucket of ice on his head, got hit was an attack line and had a tanker dumped on him. (I'll get the video on here soon)

This afternoon at work we dumped a load of water on somebody using a loader for their challenge.

For those who don't know this is about who are affected by ALS, making people more aware of ALS and raising money to help research.

 

I personally haven't. It's a fucking waste of water if you ask me.

 

People are doing this for the attention, and I'll bet you that almost none of them actually donate to charity.

If i wanted to donate to a charity, i'll do so willingly. Not to post a video on facebook/youtube to get attention from other people.

 

I'd rather donate to a different charity, but that's just me so I have no interest.

 

I fucking hate trends. Everyone does it for attention, even the ones who brag about donating.

 

Cool, any reason to donate to a good cause

 

I feel majority of people do it for fun instead of the actual cause. It's more of an attention grabber kind of thing. If I were ever nominated to do it, I'd go Charlie Sheen's way and donate cash.

 

Meh, the campaign has raised money so its a positive.

But I'm tired of hearing about it, I don't want to dump ice on my head, and I don't want to give money to an ALS foundation. I'm a generous person, but there are other charities I'd rather give my money.

 

This was a great idea. Why the hell are people so upset. A waste of water? Mate I bet you don't have 30 second showers or recycle bath water. This is the 21st century, water is in abundance. Sure as hell is a lot more positive than all the other "challenges" out there.

 

maybe sythe should do it like when we a recording we can reffer some people to do it lol and donate some money through paypal for cancer or something support them

 

This is fine as long as people don't rip off their community by lying as" im donating 10k" and they are not.

 

Yea, it's a gimmick, sure people do it for attention: just like the flour challenge, the chile challenge, the necknominations, the no make up selfie.. the ice bucket challenge. But hey, it is helping because the ALS foundation have raised about 30M$ now. Not everyone is donating when they do it but so what? All it takes is for someone to then search for more funny ones or failed ones and see the "ALS" donation link or charity website and then find out about ALS.

At the end of the day, people now know ALS exists and that it needs researched and some sort of progress can be made to change people's lives. People like Bill Gates & Oprah putting their faces on a charity's name when people have fought their whole lives for that kind of exposure is amazing. Gimmicks will come and go but suffering and grief will continue for these diseases. If you can donate, cool, if you can't, cool, if you just wana do the video, cool, if you want to do the video and donate somewhere else, cool, if you dont want to do anything, cool.

Charities love it, because as much as you hate it, its an effective marketing strategy that does generate results.

 

before the ice bucket challenge they would only receive around 1.9m a year now because of this they already raised over 22.9m which is fantastic. I asked like 5 people what als is nobody knew but they knew what the ice bucket challenge is lol.

 

This is my thoughts pretty well. If it introduces ALS to everyone we can at least recognize its danger. I can honestly say up until now I really didn't know much about ALS but I looked into and learned simply because of this challenge.
